Term 3 - Week 1
Dear families,
It’s been an awesome start back to Term 3 and welcome to our new families here at the Gympie Central. You will find the staff, students and families very warm and welcoming.
Prep 2023 transition
Have you added your child to our prep enrolments for 2023? Children born between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2018 are prep age next year. Contact Mrs Cross in the office to secure your child’s 2023 enrolment.
Dads Read - Wednesday 27 July
Our school commences our prep transition with our Dads Read event on Wednesday 27 July. Dads Read is a morning event where dads (or a family member) are invited to come and read with their Prep to Year 2 student. It takes about 40-45mins and is a great way to promote the importance of reading with young children. It’s easy, relaxed and a really nice opportunity for kids to spend time with their dad. Dads Read starts our first prep transition morning for this year. Once Dads Read ends at 9:45am, the 2023 preps will move to the Prep/1 classroom, where they will stay with the current Preps and Year 1s until 10:30am.
What: Dads Read
Who: Dads and Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students (and grandparents, uncles, aunts and mums are welcome too!)
When: Wednesday 27 July 9:00am – 9:45am followed by prep 2023 transition until 10:30am
Where: Gympie Central SS library
The school will host three transition mornings this term and then repeat in Term 4. Dates are below:
- Wednesday 27th July 9am-10:30am
- Thursday 18th August 9am-10:30am
- Wednesday 7th September 9am-10:30am
Did you receive your child’s report card?
Report Cards were emailed the last week of Term 2. If you didn’t receive this email, please contact the office to have the report resent.
School Opinion Survey 2022
The School Opinion Survey is open until Friday, 12 August 2022. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
To have your say, check your email for an invitation from the Department of Education titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2022.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.
Have you got 30mins to read with student/s before school?
Reading is such an important skill for everyone. Our school is seeking parents and carers who can give up 30 minutes to read with students before school. Each morning, the students play at the playground on the library level between 8:15am and 8:40am. If you have some spare time to spend reading with children once or twice a week, we have kids who’d love to listen to you read and who like to read to you.
If this sounds like something you’d like to try, please contact the office to help make this happen.
Parade performances are back this term!
Parade performances were a hit last term and the first performance is 3H next Friday 22 July.
Remember, we are here to help
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky

Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE—Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
3H have had a great start to Term 3. We are learning all about melting and changing states of matter and have already done two experiments with some surprising results! It’s great to see and hear how curious our students are and how they respond to scientific enquiry questions.
In English, we have started learning how to write an Informative text. Our assessment task near the end of term will be to write an Informative text about the Blossom Bat. So far, we have looked at headings that can be used to organise our writing into sections. As we are writing about animals we are learning some scientific words to use instead of less formal words. To prepare for our assessment task we have begun to learn about other animals such as the Peregrine Falcon and the Siamese Fighting fish. We have been able to identify which section of text belongs under the heading of diet, breeding, habitat, predators, appearance or behaviour.
In Maths, we have been learning about measurement using capacity, length and mass. We have played some fun online games to test our skills. We have been identifying objects with a greater or lesser mass, estimating amounts needed to fill a container, reading lines and numbers on measuring jugs and estimating and measuring lengths.
Later in the term in HASS we will learn about places within Australia and compare climate, landscape, population and resources. We are looking forward to a busy, productive term.
Welcome back families!
Hoping you enjoyed a break over the holidays!
So many are struggling with life at the moment, if you are - reach out to someone, have a chat with a friend. Or if you think someone is doing it tough, pop around and check-in on them. Sometimes a kind word, and encouragement or just being there is enough to help someone climb out of that hole and see things from a brighter perspective. We are all in this life together so why not help others along the journey or allow others to help us. Life is better with when we share it with others. Spread the love!!!
Last week for bread bags, so if you have any at home (any bag that has held a bread product in it) please drop it in to the office, and hopefully we will get enough to go towards sporting equipment.
Student Council are doing the Hot Milo/Chocolate on Thursday mornings, helps the students cope with those chilly starts! All funds go towards the fundraising project for the year.
I am here for you and your family, contact me (call the office & they will pop you through), if you need a chat, or your child needs a listening ear, let me know if I can be of any help. Take care of you!
Brekky Club
Tuesday and Thursday mornings!!
We always welcome any donations of jams,
vegemite, honey and cereal.

Qkr is a mobile phone app designed for Australian schools. It can be used to purchase school uniforms, pay for upcoming excursions and events as well as Tuckshop.
