Classroom News - 3H

3H.png

3H have had a great start to Term 3. We are learning all about melting and changing states of matter and have already done two experiments with some surprising results! It’s great to see and hear how curious our students are and how they respond to scientific enquiry questions.

In English, we have started learning how to write an Informative text. Our assessment task near the end of term will be to write an Informative text about the Blossom Bat. So far, we have looked at headings that can be used to organise our writing into sections. As we are writing about animals we are learning some scientific words to use instead of less formal words. To prepare for our assessment task we have begun to learn about other animals such as the Peregrine Falcon and the Siamese Fighting fish. We have been able to identify which section of text belongs under the heading of diet, breeding, habitat, predators, appearance or behaviour.

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement using capacity, length and mass. We have played some fun online games to test our skills. We have been identifying objects with a greater or lesser mass, estimating amounts needed to fill a container, reading lines and numbers on measuring jugs and estimating and measuring lengths.

Later in the term in HASS we will learn about places within Australia and compare climate, landscape, population and resources. We are looking forward to a busy, productive term.
