Term 2 - Week 7
Dear families,
I returned to Gympie Central today and while I really enjoyed the experience at Maroochydore SS, it’s was really nice to come back to the friendly, familiar feel of Gympie Central. A big thank you to Mr Rutland for stepping in behind me and doing such a great job. I’ve already had a few older students let me know how much they enjoyed last week’s soccer games with West and I enjoyed keeping an eye on the Facebook page and hearing about the 3/4H class excursion to Sunshine Butterflies.
Reconciliation Week, 27 May - 3 June
Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. Reconciliation is everyone's business. It can be fostered in our homes, communities, schools, and workplaces. While officially established in 2001, the road that lead to Reconciliation Australia’s inception started much earlier—with Australia’s first formal process of reconciliation in 1991.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum (27 May 1967), and the High Court Mabo decision (3 June 1992) respectively. NRW is the perfect time to reflect and act on your role in creating a better Australia.
The NRW 2024 theme, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that, no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will – and must – continue.
Prep 2025 - Come and Play 12 June 2:20pm
Our prep classroom will host a come and play afternoon on Wednesday 12th June in the prep classroom. Children born between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020 are prep eligible in 2025. Do you have a prep for 2025 or do you know someone with a prep student for next year? This will be a perfect chance to come and have a first look at the classroom.
Parade performances - 7 & 14 June
The next parade performance is 1/2D on Friday 7th June. Then is followed the next week by P/1R on 14th June. Families are always welcome to come along to each parade. These performances are always a lot of fun and it’s fun to see the performers in each class!
Athletics Carnival - Thursday 13 June
The excitement is starting to build now with only 2 weeks until our Annual Interhouse Athletics Carnival. The program of events will be emailed out late next week, so keep an eye out for it. We invite all parents to come along and cheer for their children on the day, and be sure to wear your house colours!
Report Cards
Report cards will be emailed out to parents on Thursday 20th June and the last day of term is Friday 21st June. Parent teacher interviews will be offered in early/mid Term 3.
High School Transition Information
Gympie SHS and James Nash SHS are running information for parents of year 6 students in preparation for their transition into high school next year. Parents are welcome to attend any of the below sessions, regardless of where they are being held. Both high schools are encouraging parents to enrol students as soon as possible, to enable adequate planning time.
Week 7 | |
Thursday 30 May |
Jones Hill SS |
Gympie SHS has shared its enrolment timeline and James Nash SHS will publish theirs shortly. Families of Year 6 students are encouraged to start planning which high school your child will attend, then make contact with that school. GSHS requires an ‘Intent to enrol’ as the first step and these are available from the Gympie Central office.
Uniforms - navy jumpers in Winter
Students wear our uniform with pride and with the cooler months approaching, navy jumpers are the required winter uniform. Our uniform jumper is navy blue. The uniform shop has jumpers (with logos) for sale. However, a navy-blue jumper without the logo is appropriate as we head into the cooler months. Supporting our uniform policy shows pride in our school and helps children feel part of the school community.
QParents
Did you know that the QParents portal is coming soon to Gympie Central SS? The QParents portal will provide secure online access to your child’s student information in one place, anywhere, anytime. To find out more, go to https://education.qld.gov.au/parents-and-carers/school-information/qparents
Parents, if we have your current email address, registration for the QParents app is easy. If you need to update your email address, please send details to admin@gympiecentralss.eq.edu.au.
P&C Sausage Sizzle - Volunteers Needed!
The Gympie Central P&C are holding a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser and need your help to fill the 10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm spots. Please contact the P&C by emailing gympiecentralpc@gmail.com if you're able to help out.
Remember, we are here to help
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Payment Options
We have a variety of payment options available here at Gympie Central. Our most preferred method of payment is the Qkr! app. Qkr! is a cashless payment app, which means you can make payments on your mobile phone, rather coming into the school. The Gympie Central P&C also use this app, so not only can you pay for camps and excursions, but you can also order school uniforms and tuckshop with the app.
Instructions on how to download and use the app are shown in the link below.
Other payment options that we provide are:
1. BPOINT - (for invoiced activities) Pay online or by phone using credit/debit card: https://www.bpoint.com.au/payments/dete or phone 1300 631 073
2. CENTREPAY - (for invoiced activities) We now offer Centrepay as a payment method for instrumental music and school camps. Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment. You can start, change or stop using Centrepay whenever you like. If you would like to set up a Centrepay payment, or know more information about this payment method, please contact the school office.
3. EFTPOS - We accept Mastercard, Visa and all Australian bank, building society and credit union cards.
4. CASH - Cash payments are still accepted. However, the school no longer has the ability to give out change, so only cash payments of the correct denomination will be accepted.
2024 Voluntary Financial Contribution - $20 per student
Each year, the Gympie Central State School P & C Association endorse a voluntary financial contribution of $20 per student, which equates to $0.50 per week for the entire school year. This money is a vital part of Gympie Central P&C’s commitment and helps to fund reading books, classroom resources, photocopying paper and tissues. This year the payment can be made via the Qkr! app or in person at the office. Your support in paying the voluntary contribution is greatly appreciated.
Student Absence Notification System
If your child is absent from school without explanation you will receive a SMS text message that morning to your mobile phone asking to explain their absence. Please reply (on the same day) with a simple SMS answer eg sick; specialist appointment. Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE - Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
