The students will have their transition afternoon on Tuesday 5th December. That day students will bring home their letters informing them of their class teacher for 2024, as well as their booklist. Booklists will also be available on the school’s website and emailed.
School Captain Speeches - Tuesday 21st November
School captain applications have been submitted and next Tuesday, 21st November, at 10:10am, applicants will present their speeches to the school. Families are welcome to come and watch these speeches. Following the speeches, students from Year 3, 4 and 5, as well as all staff, will vote. The 2024 captains will be announced at the End of Year Concert on Thursday 30th November.
Free Dress Day fundraiser for RSPCA + Staff bring your dog to work day! - Friday 24th November
Next Friday, 24th November, some staff members will be accompanied to work by their dog! This day will be a wonderful opportunity to teach students how to care for a dog, how to safely interact with dogs and will also be great fun! Staff will be responsible for their animal and will only be bringing in dogs with an appropriate temperament for the school setting. All dogs will be on leads in the school grounds and most dogs will be at school for only part of the day (Socksy Cafferky will be in attendance all day).
Please let us know if your child does not wish to participate so we can make considerations for your child. You could do this by letting your child's teacher know if your child is a little nervous, so we can plan accordingly, or letting us know of any allergy considerations, etc. Please get in contact with us so we can make adjustments as needed.
The student council would also like to use this opportunity to fundraise for the RSPCA. Students are invited to wear free dress or even dress up like a dog! Students to bring one of the following items as their donation to the RSPCA:
- gold coin donation
- tinned food (dog / puppy / cat / kitten)
- unopened dry food in sealed bags
- cat litter
- collapsible pet crates
- pet bedding / blankets
End of Year Concert - Thursday 30th November
Keep Thursday 30th November free for the Gympie Central End of Year concert. It’s held at school, starts at 5:30pm and is usually finished by 7pm. This year the classes have been creating their arts pieces ready for the great Gympie Central Art Auction!
Year 6 Graduation - Wednesday 6th December
Year 6 Graduation will take place on Wednesday 6th December starting at 5:30pm and finishing by 7pm. Year 6 parents, have you sent in the items Mr Barnes has requested? Remember to purchase your tickets (students free and $8 for others) on Qkr! This money goes to the P&C to cover the light supper that will be provided at the end of the evening.
Storm Season Safety
Locals are very familiar with the severe storms that strike our region and during such an event, the safest place for our students is inside the school buildings. Should a storm be tracking to hit Gympie near 3pm, students are safe to stay in their classrooms with their teachers. Storms pass. We encourage families to stay safe and stay off the roads until the worst of the weather has moved over Gympie. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to this, but it’s best to be prepared.
Prep 2024 - Is your child turning 5 before June 30 next year?
We are inviting all current Gympie Central State School families and community members with a child or children starting Prep in 2024 to complete and submit an ‘Application for Student Enrolment’ form. The form is available via our website or from our office. Children are eligible for Prep next year if they are born between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019. While the new school year is a little less than a term away, it is important that we have as much information as possible to manage our enrolments.
New and returning families are now invited to book their 2024 prep interviews. These are scheduled at times in order meet the needs of our families.
Rewards Day - Wednesday 6th December
Our students who have exemplified Safe, Respectful Learners this year will be heading off to their rewards day on Wednesday 6th December. This year all the students who’ve earned 225 Gotchas are off to Gympie Ten Pin Bowling. Our students who didn’t get to the 225 Gotchas still have a great day planned for them here at school. They’ll still celebrate, they’ll just do it at school. These celebrations are funded by the amazing school student council! Thank you to the 2023 Student Council and to Ms Davis for helping them along the way.
Pick of the Crop Grant - Vegetable and sensory garden in 2024
Gympie Central SS has been successful in gaining a grant through the Health and Wellbeing Queensland Pick of the Crop Program. Early next year, you will see the garden being established in the area between the prep storage shed and B Block. This will be a great resource and teaching tool for students to see the benefit and joy that growing our own food can provide.Mr Thorburn’s memorial
The staff, P&C and student council have contributed to a memorial seat for Mr Thorburn. This will be installed by the end of the school year and will be located at the bus waiting area on Lawrence Street.
Thank you from the Qld Children’s Oral Health Survey team
The QCOHS team would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the school, parents and students who participated in The Queensland Child Oral Health Study (QCOHS). Your contribution in the form of an oral examination and completion of a study questionnaire has been invaluable and will help us gain a better understanding of the oral health of children in Queensland. Your family’s involvement will make a substantial contribution that will continue to benefit Queensland and Australian children for many years.
From QCOHS Research team
Remember, we are here to help
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Unexplained Absence Letters
Unfortunately, we still have a large amount of students with unexplained absences from throughout this year. Unexplained absence letters have been sent home with students this week. Please provide reasons for any absences and return the letters to the office as soon as possible.
Lost Property
As we are nearing the end of the scool year, we would like to remind parents ad students to check the lost property for items that have been misplaced throughout the year. The lost property is located under A Block at the office end. Any items that remain at the end of the term will be donated to charity.
Dental Van News
Oral Health Consent Forms were ditributed to students today. If you would like your child to receive an oral health check here at school, please ensure you complete the consent form and return it to the office as soon as possible.
Payment Options
We have a variety of payment options available here at Gympie Central. Our most preferred method of payment is the Qkr! app. Qkr! is a cashless payment app, which means you can make payments on your mobile phone, rather coming into the school. The Gympie Central P&C also use this app, so not only can you pay for camps and excursions, but you can also order school uniforms and tuckshop with the app.
Instructions on how to download and use the app are shown in the link below.
Other payment options that we provide are:
1. BPOINT - (for invoiced activities) Pay online or by phone using credit/debit card: https://www.bpoint.com.au/payments/dete or phone 1300 631 073
2. CENTREPAY - (for invoiced activities) We now offer Centrepay as a payment method for instrumental music and school camps. Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment. You can start, change or stop using Centrepay whenever you like. If you would like to set up a Centrepay payment, or know more information about this payment method, please contact the school office.
3. EFTPOS - We accept Mastercard, Visa and all Australian bank, building society and credit union cards.
4. CASH - Cash payments are still accepted. However, the school no longer has the ability to give out change, so only cash payments of the correct denomination will be accepted.
