Term 2 - Week 5
Dear families,
Classes are entering the period of the term where students are completing assessment. It’s important that students are attending school as much as possible in the coming weeks. Teachers always work to provide opportunities for students to catch up on missed work and missed assessment but being at school consistently gives students the best opportunity to effectively demonstrate their learning.
School review
Thank you to our staff, students and families who contributed to the school review that wrapped up today. The team of Scott, Emily and Darren were impressed by the Gympie Central school community - from the students and staff, to the positive culture and the grounds, and have left the school with a small number of key strategies to keep improving our great school as the school heads into the next four-year strategic plan.
Nexus Arts Performance
Nexus arts performance is on Monday. The cost is $6 and payment via Qkr app is used as consent.
Excursions
Students have been out and about lately. Classes have visited Roadcraft (thanks to the Gympie/Kin Kin Masonsic Lodge), the Gympie Library where they were wowed with science experiments, today two classes went to the show and next week two more classes are heading out to Amamoor on the Rattler!
P&C Tuckshop - Volunteers always welcome

Do you have a couple hours to spare on a Friday morning? The P&C volunteers provide tuckshop every second Friday morning and our students love it. The volunteers are always finished by 11:15am and welcome new volunteers. Drop in and say 'hi' next Friday morning?
ICAS Assessments
The school will be offering students the chance to participate in UNSW ICAS English and maths assessments during August. Keep an eye out for an upcoming email from the school with registration details. The cost per assessment is approximately $20 per student. Details are available at https://www.icasassessments.com/
Parade performances
This term, each class will do a small performance on parade. Our next group is 3/4H on Friday 26 May. Families are always welcome to come along to each parade. These performances are always a lot of fun and it’s fun to see the performers in each class!
Prep enrolments are open

Prep enrolments for 2024 are open. Get in touch with the office to add your child’s name to the 2024 prep class.
Uniforms - navy jumpers in Winter
Students wear our uniform with pride and with the cooler months approaching, navy jumpers are the required winter uniform. Our uniform jumper is navy blue. The uniform shop has jumpers (with logos) for sale. However, a navy blue jumper without the logo is appropriate as we head into the cooler months.
Supporting our uniform policy shows pride in our school and helps children feel part of the school community. If you’re missing a jumper (or hat/ lunchbox/ water bottle!), the lost property is stored at the base of the stairwell at the admin end of A Block.
Attendance Matters
When our students turn up, we can do amazing things with them! Regular attendance at school has so many benefits, so if the kids are well, make sure they’re at school.
Do you have a child starting high school in 2024?
In weeks 6 and 7 of this term, Gympie State High School and James Nash State High School will run information sessions for parents of year 6 students regarding transitioning to high school. Once enrolment information is received from the families, high schools will liaise with the primary schools during term 3 to collect information regarding incoming students to ensure their success during the transition period.
School photos - Tuesday 20 June
This year we will be using Leading Image School Photos. This is the new name of Silver Rose. Information around the online ordering process will be distributed in the coming month.
Remember, we are here to help
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Student Council Fundraising
This term, the Student Council will be back out selling ice blocks on Fridays. They will be on sale at 2nd break and there will be $1 and $2 options available.
2023 Voluntary Financial Contribution - $20 per student
Each year, the Gympie Central State School P & C Association endorse a voluntary financial contribution of $20 per student, which equates to $0.50 per week for the entire school year. This money is a vital part of Gympie Central P&C’s commitment and helps to fund reading books, classroom resources, photocopying paper and tissues. This year the payment can be made via the Qkr! app or in person at the office. Your support in paying the voluntary contribution is greatly appreciated.
Payment Options
We have a variety of payment options available here at Gympie Central. Our most preferred method of payment is the Qkr! app. Qkr! is a cashless payment app, which means you can make payments on your mobile phone, rather coming into the school. The Gympie Central P&C also use this app, so not only can you pay for camps and excursions, but you can also order school uniforms and tuckshop with the app.
Instructions on how to download and use the app are shown in the link below.
Other payment options that we provide are:
1. BPOINT - (for invoiced activities) Pay online or by phone using credit/debit card: https://www.bpoint.com.au/payments/dete or phone 1300 631 073
2. CENTREPAY - (for invoiced activities) We now offer Centrepay as a payment method for instrumental music and school camps. Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment. You can start, change or stop using Centrepay whenever you like. If you would like to set up a Centrepay payment, or know more information about this payment method, please contact the school office.
3. EFTPOS - We accept Mastercard, Visa and all Australian bank, building society and credit union cards.
4. CASH - Cash payments are still accepted. However, the school no longer has the ability to give out change, so only cash payments of the correct denomination will be accepted.
Student Absence Notification System
If your child is absent from school without explanation you will receive a SMS text message that morning to your mobile phone asking to explain their absence. Please reply (on the same day) with a simple SMS answer eg sick; specialist appointment. Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE - Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
