Dear families,
Yesterday’s sports carnival was a terrific day! We had a great roll up of parents, the P&C’s sausage sizzle was really well supported and best of all, the kids had a great day. At the end of the day, it was a win to Fisher for the juniors and for the whole school points. Congratulations Fisher!!

Community Engagement @ Central
This year, Gympie Central staff have been working on strengthening community engagement. One focus area has been getting families and community back into the school to see the good things happening inside at Central.
- Under 8’s day was a successful way of showcasing our school.
- Class parade performances have seen big number of parents coming back to parades.
- The P&C is seeing increased numbers either at meetings or helping in other ways (working bees in the grounds and in tuckshop).
- Our new families enrolling in the school have fitted in really well and our students, staff and families have been very welcoming.
- We’ve had visits to the school from Jacaranda Dental who were really impressed by our classroom and the students in P/1R.
- Our classes have been going out on excursions in Gympie and on the Sunshine Coast. Recently the P/1R class visited the Ginger Factory and next week 1/2S and 3H are off the Wildlife HQ at Nambour.
- Chappy takes students across the road to Zion, home for the aged, every Thursday and the student and residents look forward to these visits.
There have been so many good things happening and the students are reaping the benefits. If you have any feedback around what else the school can do, take the time to drop in or send an email. The P&C is also an easy way to get involved and the next meeting will be on Monday 18th July.
Dads Read and Prep Transition 2023
Dads Read kicks off our 2023 prep transition next term on Wednesday 27th July. Dads Read is a morning event where dads (or a family member) are invited to come and read with their Pre-prep to Year 2 age child. It takes about 40-45min and is a way to promote the importance of reading with young children. It’s easy, relaxed and a really nice way for kids to spend time with their dad. We’ll combine Dads Read with our first prep transition morning.
The school is now taking enrolments for 2023. It’s not too early to put your child’s name on the list for 2023 and grab an enrolment pack.
Next term the school will host three transition mornings and then repeat this in Term 4. Dates are below:
- Wednesday 27th July 9:00am-10:30am
- Thursday 18th August 9:00am-10:30am
- Wednesday 7th September 9:00am-10:30am
Report Cards
Report Cards will be emailed out next Thursday, 23rd July, so keep an eye on your inboxes.
Positive Behaviour Rewards
Next Wednesday, our students who have received 100 Gotchas this term, will have a sausage sizzle with Mr Cafferky. Then, on Thursday morning, the students who’ve received an incredible 125 Gotchas, will be off to Nelson Reserve for a play in the park.
Student Council Free Dress Day - Friday 24th June
Student Council are celebrating the end of Semester 1 with a crazy hair and free dress day on the last day of term. It’s a gold coin donation, which can be made electronically on Qkr! or cash on the day. Thank you for your support!
NAIDOC Week
Each year the NAIDOC celebrations take place in the June/July holidays. See the attached flyer for details of NAIDOC celebrations here in Gympie.
Staffing
Next term our school will be welcoming our new Guidance Officer and Head of Department - Curriculum.
Mrs Lizette Phillips will be joining our school as our new GO. Mrs Phillips is currently the very experienced and respected HOD-C at Gympie West but is looking for a new and different challenge. Mrs Natasha Hooklyn will be our new HOD-C and has worked in remote communities and most recently at Jones Hill SS and One Mile SS. Both are excited to join the team at Central and we’re looking forward to them bringing their experience to our great school.
Could you use a BBQ?
Do you know someone who could use our P&C’s old BBQ? It’s a 4-burner plate BBQ and the P&C would happily accept a donation to see it go to a good home. Please contact the school for details.
Year 7 Transition
Enrolment packs for both schools are available from our school office, and both highschools are asking that all enrolments be submitted by the end of this term, Friday 24th June. If you require assistance with completing this paperwork or are unsure of which high school catchment you live in, please come into the office, we are more than happy to help.
Remember, we are here to help
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Instrumental Music fees
