Term 2 - Week 3
Dear Families,
How fantastic did our ANZAC marchers look?! They were awesome on ANZAC Day!!
A big welcome to our new families who have started here at Central this term. With borders open and more families moving the Gympie region, it’s great to have some new faces around our school. Don’t forget our first parade performance by 1/2S is tomorrow.
Congratulations to our runners who competed in this week’s Gympie Cross Country trials. Paige, Declan and Hamish were up against the best runners from our local area and did themselves proud representing Central School.
The P&C is hosting their annual uniform super sale with pre-loved uniforms and jumpers for sale (nothing over $5!!). This will be followed by our first parade performance by 1/2S and lastly, we’ll be hosting a morning tea for parents and carers following parade. Come along to grab a uniform bargain and stay for the entertainment and a chat ?.
A big thank you to the families who have donated items to the Mother’s Day gift packs. There will be some spoilt mums on Sunday!
Last week our school farewelled Ms Vacher, our Head of Curriculum. Ms Vacher started at Central in 2020 and had a positive impact on curriculum and culture from day one. The staff and students will miss her around our school and we wish her well in her new role supporting schools across the Gympie and Sunshine Coast region. The school is currently working through the recruitment process to fill the HOC position.
Under 8’s
Gympie Central’s Under 8’s day is only 3weeks away! It’s on Wednesday 25th May from 9-11am. There will be musical games, gardening, sporting activities along with visits from the Queensland Police and the Queensland Fire and Rescue Services. Friends and new families are invited and welcome to attend.
Come and join us for a fantastic celebration of the early years!
Parent Teacher Interviews 9-27 May
Parent Teacher interviews were delayed due the disrupted first term. They are being offered before and after school for the next three weeks. Teachers will share available timeslots and parents are invited to make an appointment to discuss your child/ren’s progress in 2022.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN assessments commence for our Year 3 and Year 5 students next week. They happen from Tuesday to the following Monday or Tuesday and each assessment runs for between 45-55 minutes. Only one assessment is scheduled per day and the rest of the day is just a regular school day. Students who miss a day are able to complete make up assessments where possible (up until 19 May).
Parents or carers who have any questions are welcome to contact the school to discuss.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week (NRW), 27 May to the 3 June, is a time for all of us to come together and learn. The theme this year is “Be Brave. Make Change”. Collectively, Gympie Central shares a vision for every Aboriginal and Torres Striat Islander student to be supported in their learning, experience academic success, and feel a sense of belonging and connection to culture in their school community and classrooms.
Report Cards
Report Cards will be emailed (no paper copies unless specifically requested) on the last Thursday of this term.
Voluntary Contribution - $20 per student
Reminder: Each year Gympie Central asks for a voluntary contribution from families. The contribution is used to purchase texts, paper and resources used in classroom learning. This year the payment can be made via the Qkr! app or in person at the office. Your support in paying the voluntary contribution is greatly appreciated.
Student Absence Notification System
Reminder: If your child is absent from school without explanation you will receive a SMS text message that morning to your mobile phone asking to explain their absence. Please reply (on the same day) with a simple SMS answer eg sick; specialist appointment. Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE—Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
Qkr Payments!!
Reminder: Qkr is the new cashless payment method available at Gympie Central State School which allows parents to pay for items without coming into the office. Qkr is a mobile phone app designed for Australian schools. It can be used to purchase school uniforms, pay for upcoming excursions and events as well as Tuckshop.
Instructions on how to download the app are shown in the link below.
To avoid paying for something twice, please open your Qkr app to review payments already made. Thank you.

3H have been very happy to welcome two new students to our class, Hailee and Kavin.
We are busily preparing for Naplan and have been learning how to write a persuasive text that is strong and convincing. We understand that our writing task may be a narrative, and we will be prepared for that as well.
This week students have enjoyed learning about right angles and symmetry. We discovered lots of angles in our classroom and found out that some letters and images have symmetry. We are able to draw lines of symmetry and recognise when objects do not have symmetry.
The class have been learning a Science song to present on stage and are very excited, and a little nervous, about performing in front of the whole school.
Hello!
Week 3 is almost done! Hoping you are enjoying these long weekends and having extra family fun!
We are collecting bread bags, so any bag that has had a bread product in it, please drop it in to the office, and hopefully we will get enough to go towards sporting equipment.
Don’t forget if you know of someone in need - a neighbour or friend, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school office. We will source what assistance, or refer to appropriate services wherever we can. Many hands make light work let’s share our loads, we are happy to help out wherever we can.
We have had a lot of turmoil and disruption to our lives and it can be very challenging for children. If you or your children need a chat please don’t hesitate to contact me and let me know, I can touch base with them and give them an outlet to just chill, or chat, or play a game. Whatever it takes to let them know they are safe, loved and going to be ok.

I am here for you and your family, contact me (call the office & they will pop you through), if you need a chat, or your child needs a listening ear, let me know if I can be of any help
