Term 2 - Week 1
Dear Families,
What a wonderful first two days it has been welcoming back our students to Gympie Central at what is set to be another successful term for our entire school community. I have been particularly impressed with the optimism, positivity and genuine excitement our students and staff have for the term ahead; and my initial look at student results as they are coming in gives me great inspiration for the success that continues to thrive here at Central – no matter what. There is so much to look forward to this term.
Our Improvement Agenda at Gympie Central continues to prioritise Quality Teaching and School and Community Partnerships; and this guides the work of our school every day in every classroom. Central to this is the positive partnerships between school and parents. It also requires a culture of high expectations and continual improvement – no matter what. I thank you in advance for your support of this, particularly with regards to our Positive Behaviour for Learning expectations of being Safe, Respectful Learners that shape our positive school culture every day, commencing with regular attendance, a high standard of uniform and a commitment to excellent learning outcomes every day supported by respectful relationships.
U8s Day at Central- date claimer Wed 25th May
Gympie Central will host its Under 8’s Day on Wed 25th May (9am-11am) here in the Central grounds. The day is open to local early years services, new families and younger siblings, future preppies and of course, our Prep-Yr 3 students. Put it in your calendar and tell your friends about it. It’ll be a great morning!
Parade performances
This term each class will do a small performance on parade. Our first group is 1/2S on Friday 6th May (3rd Friday). Families are always welcome to come along to each parade.
School ANZAC Service- Friday 23rd April
Parents and families are invited to join our students this Friday 22nd April when Gympie Central will commemorate Anzac Day with a special 30-minute service at 9am in the school parade area. This service will be led by the school captains and will be attended by special guests from the Gympie RSL and Gympie Regional Council.
Gympie ANZAC March- Monday 25th April
Last year the Gympie Central students and staff looked proud as they marched in the town march representing our school and showing pride in our school. We’re wanting as many students as possible to join us again this year- our uniform stands out and looks fantastic as we march with all the schools and groups.
For students able to join us on Anzac Day- 25th April, Gympie Central will join local schools and organisations to march in the Gympie Anzac March along Mary St to Memorial Park. Details are:
Event: Gympie ANZAC Day March. Students will march with staff.
Date: Monday April 25th
Time: Gather at 9am for a 9:30am march. Students not required to stay for the service following the march.
Uniform: Full school uniform including school or navy blue hat. A small supply of spare school hats will be available.
It will be great to see as many students as possible join their peers on this day. For any students who have family medals to wear, these can be worn on the right side.
P&C
NAPLAN 2022
In May this year, Year 3 and Year 5 children will participate in the NAPLAN (National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy) Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 assessments. Students will take part in 4 online assessments; Writing, Conventions of Language, Reading and Numeracy.
Children will take part in a practice assessment during April to become familiar with the assessment format. Attached is some further information about how NAPLAN will run in our school and some privacy information regarding how the assessments will be managed online.
You do not need to provide permission for your child to participate, however if you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s participation please contact the school on 5480 2111.
Uniforms- navy jumpers in Winter
Our uniform jumper is navy blue. The uniform shop has ordered jumpers (with logos) and they will be here mid-term. However, a navy-blue jumper without the logo is appropriate as we head into the cooler months. Supporting our uniform policy shows pride in our school and helps children feel part of the school community. If you’re missing a jumper (or hat/ lunchbox/ water bottle!), the lost property is stored at the base of the stairwell at the admin end of A Block).
Remember, we are here to help
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Voluntary Contribution - $20 per student

Student Absence Notification System
Reminder: If your child is absent from school without explanation you will receive a SMS text message that morning to your mobile phone asking to explain their absence. Please reply (on the same day) with a simple SMS answer eg sick; specialist appointment. Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE—Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
Welcome back!

I hope Easter holidays gave you some relaxing times, fun times and lots of family time. How great it is to see smiling faces back at school and lots of excited voices talking about holiday fun.
We are collecting bread bags, so any bag that has had a bread product in it, please drop it in to the office, and hopefully we will get enough to go towards sporting equipment.

We have had a lot of turmoil and disruption to our lives and it can be very challenging for children. If you or your children need a chat please don’t hesitate to contact me and let me know, I can touch base with them and give them an outlet to just chill, or chat, or play a game. Whatever it takes to let them know they are safe, loved and going to be ok.
I am here for you and your family, contact me (call the office & they will pop you through), if you need a chat, or your child needs a listening ear, let me know if I can be of any help
We have registered for the @WonderRecyclingRewards program! Please keep all your bread bags! Just shake out the breadcrumbs and then drop into the school. We will be sent a recycling box to pop them in. We earn points for every 5kg of bags we recycle, which goes towards sporting equipment for the school. Only bags that have contained bread allowed.
Brekky Club

Qkr is a mobile phone app designed for Australian schools. It can be used to purchase school uniforms, pay for upcoming excursions and events as well as Tuckshop.
Instructions on how to download the app are shown in the link below.
To avoid paying for something twice, please open your Qkr app to review payments already made. Thank you.
