Cross Country
Gympie Central will host its cross country this coming Monday morning. Families are invited to come and cheer on the kids. Students can wear colours to represent their Dunstan, Nash or Fisher house. The event will start at 9am on the Myall Street oval and will be finished by 10:50am.
P&C News
Next time you’re in the school, checkout the gardens near C Block. Thanks to some generous donations from Bunnings, our volunteers from the P&C have tidied up and replanted our gardens with some hardy natives. They look great!
P&C AGM - Monday 28th @ 5pm
The P&C will hold its AGM in the school library this coming Monday afternoon. Being part of the P&C enables you to help be part of the school community and contribute to the direction of the school.
To elect the 2022 P&C Executive Committee, we need a quorum of members in attendance at this meeting so that we can elect a new committee by the end of the month.
Our school's P&C:
- runs the school tuckshop and coordinates uniforms
- runs fundraising events
- donates to the school each year to support learning initiatives and purchase of learning resources
- coordinates the application of grants to upgrade infrastructure within the school grounds
*Without a P&C these activities are not possible*
Gympie Central State School is grateful to all the wonderful families that make our school a great place to be, and we look forward to meeting our quorum and families at the AGM.
Easter Bonnet Parade - Thursday 31 March
The P/1R and 1/2S classes will be holding their Easter Bonnet parade next Thursday 31st March at 9am. All families are invited to come along and watch this cute annual event.
Following the Easter Bonnet parade, the two classes will be wearing their bonnets and walking down to Mary Street to spread some Easter cheer to our local businesses. Students are hoping this will be a nice surprise for our Mary Street locals who have had a tough time this past few months.
Seeking parent reading volunteers - Term 2
Our school understands the importance of reading. We are seeking volunteers who would be willing to read with individuals or small groups of early years students in the morning before school. Each morning our students who arrive between 8:15am and 8:40am play on the playground near the library, and we’d like some of these students to have the chance to read with (or to) an adult.
We have the books.
We have the space.
We have the kids.
We just need some willing volunteers to give up 30 min once a week to sit with our young readers. If you’re interested, please contact the office and a staff member will be in touch to share information.
Under 8’s Day @ Central - Wednesday 25th May 9-11am
Gympie Central will host its Under 8’s day next term. Check out the attached flyer!
ANZAC Day - Join Gympie Central at the town march
Last year Gympie Central had a great roll up for the Gympie ANZAC Day parade. This year we’ll be marching again, so if you’re around that long weekend, please come and show your support for our returned service men and women.
The school will also hold its ANZAC parade on Friday 22 April here at school. This is always a special event and all families and community members are welcome to join us here at school for the service from 9am-9:30am.
This will be the last newsletter for the term so on behalf of the staff I’d like to wish everyone a safe break and we look forward to seeing our new and returning families on Tuesday 19 April.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Voluntary Contribution - $20 per student
Reminder: Each year Gympie Central asks for a voluntary contribution from families. The contribution is used to purchase texts, paper and resources used in classroom learning. This year the payment can be made via the Qkr! app or in person at the office. Your support in paying the voluntary contribution is greatly appreciated.
Student Absence Notification System
Reminder: If your child is absent from school without explanation you will receive a SMS text message that morning to your mobile phone asking to explain their absence. Please reply (on the same day) with a simple SMS answer eg sick; specialist appointment. Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE—Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
Qkr Payments!!
Reminder: Qkr is the new cashless payment method available at Gympie Central State School which allows parents to pay for items without coming into the office. Qkr is a mobile phone app designed for Australian schools. It can be used to purchase school uniforms, pay for upcoming excursions and events as well as Tuckshop.
Instructions on how to download the app are shown in the link below.
To avoid paying for something twice, please open your Qkr app to review payments already made. Thank you.

Hello!
Here we are Week 9! One week of school left and then holidays and Easter. It has definitely been a scattered start to the year. If you, or someone know know, are in need of anything, please reach out to the school office. We will source the assistance you require, or refer to appropriate services wherever we can. If your children need a chat please don’t hesitate to contact me and let me know. I can touch base with them and give them an outlet to just chill, chat, or play a game. Whatever it takes to let them know they are safe, loved and going to be ok.
We have registered for the @WonderRecyclingRewards program! Please keep all your bread bags! Just shake out the breadcrumbs and then drop into the school. We will be sent a recycling box to pop them in. We earn points for every 5kg of bags we recycle, which goes towards sporting equipment for the school. Only bags that have contained bread allowed.
