Term 4 - Week 9
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
With 6 days to go it’s time to say thank you to our students and families for an outstanding 2021. On Wednesday 8th December, children will spend the last session of the day with their new teacher for 2022. Each student will bring home an introductory letter and their book list.
Next Thursday, 9th December, your child’s report card will be emailed.
End of Year Concert - TONIGHT!
The EOY concert is tonight- right here at school! The P&C BBQ starts at 5 and the concert at 5:45pm. Students are to wear full school uniform. We’re looking forward to a great show.
Don’t forget to have a look at the incredible class artwork up for auction on the night. Families can have a preview by checking out the art on Facebook. All money raised goes to the P&C!
Arts curriculum in 2021
From 2022, Gympie Central will deliver the Arts curriculum using one specialist Arts teacher. The Arts incorporates Music, Visual Arts, Media Arts, Dance and Drama. Currently, music lessons are taught by a specialist teacher and all other areas by the classroom teachers. Next year, our new Arts teacher Mrs Greer will spend a term focussing on specific Arts disciplines (music will still be taught two terms). This means she can teach Music (Term 1), Visual Arts (Term 2), Music (Term 3) and Dance & Drama (Term 4). The following year, students will cover Media Arts instead of Visual Arts.
The school will carefully structure the delivery so that over a two year cycle, children will have the chance to study all of the disciplines for the required amount of time.
Book Drop Off
The first day of school is always busy. To make it a little easier, on the afternoon of Friday 21st January, classrooms will be open and teachers will be in their classrooms. Parents and students are invited to come to school, find the classroom, drop off books and say a quick hello to the teacher. Then on the first day of school, all students need to bring is their lunchbox, hat and water bottle.
Book drop off details:
Event: 2022 Book drop off/open classrooms
Date: Friday 21st January 2022
Time: 1:00pm- 3:00pm
Class list will be displayed in the parade areas at this time and on the first day (Monday 24th January).
First Day next year
Students return to school on Monday 24th January. The office will be open the week before school starts, from 17th January.
Great behaviour reward
Next Monday morning, 6th December, students with 225 Gotchas for the year will attend an excursion to Nelson’s Reserve at the end of Mary Street. It’s a simple way to acknowledge those who demonstrate consistently good behaviour. Notes will have come home today for those who’ve earned this reward.
Next year we’ll expand this program to offer similar rewards throughout the year so we can get our great Gympie Central blue out into the community!
Big Breakfast on the last day
Chappy Leanne and the P&C will host our Big Breakfast on the last Friday morning. The Big Breaky will be served from 8:00am to 8:30am and is free for families and staff!
Last day update
The last day is still a school day. Staff are here and we encourage all students to attend in their uniform. There will be no official parade on the last day. There will be a brief, informal parade to farewell students later in the day, but there will be no awards or official messages.
Farewell our school leaders and Ms Saraber!
Graduation - Wednesday 8th December
Next Wednesday night, the Year 6s will celebrate their graduation here at school. The event runs from 5:45pm to 7:00pm. Attendees are required to purchase tickets for $5 using Qkr or with cash at the office (Yr 6 students do not have to pay). These funds will be used by the P&C to cover the cost of catering for the event. Thank you to all our families who have already booked their tickets.
On Friday, we say farewell to our Year 6 students who will walk out of the Gympie Central gates for the last time. To the families moving on from Gympie Central, the staff wish you well and if you’re still in town maybe we’ll see you around from time to time.
I would also like to inform the community that Ms Saraber will transfer to Hervey Bay next year. She will be greatly missed here at Central as her creativity and enthusiasm for her students is invaluable. Hervey Bay is picking up a gem of a teacher!
School Magazine - Off the Slate - ORDERS CLOSE TOMORROW!
Our School Magazine is in production. Orders will be accepted until 3pm tomorrow, Friday 3rd December. If you would like to reserve a copy, they can be purchased for $5 each using the Qkr app or with cash/eftpos at the office.
On behalf of the staff, I hope you are able to make the most of the break with your children. Merry Christmas and we look forward to seeing our families in January.
Have a great holiday!
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
