Term 4 - Week 7
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Students are in the final stages of completing assessment and teachers have made their start on report cards. Over the past 18 months our teachers have worked carefully on case managing a small number of target students in their classes. They have done this by:
- Checking the student’s English draft to identify what the student needs to improve to move up to the next result (C, B or A).
- Providing feedback to the student on their goals before they complete their final task.
- Targeting teaching to these goals.
While the improvement in the target students’ results has been amazing, the improvement in Central’s overall English results is worthy of celebration. In fact Gympie Central staff, along with a number of other Gympie and North Coast Region schools, have been recognised for their efforts in this initiative by being awarded our Department of Education’s State Showcase Award winner. An amazing recognition for the staff and students of Gympie Central.
Prep Transition - it’s not too late to enrol
Central hosted another prep transition this morning and these have been very successful in helping our future preps get familiar with the school environment. Today they got to experience music with Mrs Falk and even heard the choir perform in the junior eating area. If your child has missed these days, there’s still time to enrol and the school can work with you to make sure we’re ready to welcome your child to school in 2022.
P&C news
Our P&C volunteers will be at school this coming Tuesday when they will finish the tree mural by adding students’ hand prints to the branches. Can’t wait to see the finished product. A big thankyou goes to Chappy’s daughter who has donated her time to prepare and paint the mural.
Solar Panel Installation - B Block entrance changes next week
Next Monday 22nd to Friday 26th, contractors will be installing a 40kW solar system on the roof of B Block. This will go a long way to reducing the school’s use of fossil fuels while reducing our energy bills. Please be aware that the B Block gates to the school will still be open but the walk way under B Block will be blocked off. People entering via this gate will need to walk on the path between B and C Blocks and the inside of the fence to make their way into the school. The rest of the school gates will be open.
Music/Arts in 2022
The design of the Australian Curriculum incorporates music as part of the wider arts curriculum. Currently classroom teachers have the responsibility for teaching the Arts (except for music). In 2022, Gympie Central will have a specialist teacher who delivers the whole Arts curriculum over the year. This means that Music will be delivered for two terms each year. During the other terms, this specialist teacher will teach Visual or Media Arts and Dance/Drama to each class. The purpose of the Arts curriculum is to expose students to a broader range of Arts disciplines and this method of delivery is common in many schools across Gympie and across Queensland.
This will be further discussed at Monday’s P&C Meeting at 5pm and interested parents are invited to come along and hear about these changes.
Instrumental applications are open for 2022
Is your child in Year 3, 4 or 5 and interested in instrumental music in 2022? Next year Central will offer strings, brass and percussion. Students should submit their EOIs to the office by Monday 22 November.
Year 6 Camp 24-26 November
After a COVID caused delay, the Year 6 camp at Noosa North Shore will take place next Wednesday to Friday. What a great way to finish the year!
End of Year Concert - Thursday 2 December
The EOY concert is a highlight for students and families. Each class performs and so do the instrumental and choir students. The civic centre is out of action so this year the concert will be held in the parade area starting at 5:45pm and will run through till 7:00pm.
Year 6 Graduation - Wednesday 8 December @ 5:45pm
Families of Year 6 students are invited to celebrate the end of our Year 6s’ primary school journey at this year’s graduation. Tickets are $5 for guests and must be purchased using the Qkr! app or with cash at the office. There is no cost for Year 6 students.

Remember, we are here to help!
I would like to thank families, staff and students for the contributions made every day to make Gympie Central the wonderful community it is! Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky

Hello!
Hasn’t this term flown! It will be Christmas break before we know it!
The Great Gympie Duck Race was last Saturday, run with a difference in the Gympie South State School pool. It was such a colourful event! First prize went to a Tin Can Bay School supporter, and both 2nd & third went to local Gympie-ites. Your P and C were also in attendance selling popcorn, apple slinkies & iceblocks. The Race will return next year bigger and better!
Brekky Club is still going strong on Tuesdays and Thursdays!! Did you know, we also provide cereal now, which many students are enjoying. Donations are always welcome.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of any help to you or your family. Enjoy your weekend.
