Term 4 - Week 5
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Today our Prep/1 class was joined by a number of our 2022 prep students. Our new preppies had the chance to play on the lower playground, collage, play in the home corner, challenge themselves on the obstacle course and finish by joining the P-2s for lunch. This is such a wonderful time for these children filled with excitement, anticipation and a little bit of nervousness. It was a great morning and such a great chance to help make a successful transition to school.
If have a prep student for next year and you have not received information regarding transition or enrolment please contact the office.
2022 Student Leadership
On Monday this week Year 5 students headed out the Gympie East high ropes course to challenge themselves. It was a lot of fun and amazing to see the students grow in confidence in the short time we were there. A big thank you to Ms Saraber, Chappy Leanne and the team from Barambah who made the day a success.
Applications for School Captain close this Friday and staff are looking forward to welcoming our new school captains for 2022.
Disco - Thursday 11 November
The students are excited for the disco next Thursday night. The theme is Fancy and Fantasy and the Student Council will be showing off their new disco lights. Details are:
What: Fancy and Fantasy disco @ Gympie Central
When: Thursday 11 November, 6:00pm-7:30pm
Cost: Gold coin donation
Who: P-6 students and parents
Food: Orders will be available on Qkr next week
The Student Council are also really proud of themselves for completing their bus waiting area seating project. We’d like to give a big shout out to Michael Tebbit for giving up his time on his days off to build the seating.
Uniform expectations
Students at Central do a great job wearing their shirts with pride and more and more are wearing black shoes. These look great! However, the school has noticed a number of students wearing non-uniform shorts and these really stand out from their peers. Our uniform shorts are navy blue. While the uniform shop has a small supply of uniform shorts, navy shorts from a department store are also suitable.
Wearing the full uniform shows pride in our school and looks great when kids are out and about around town after school. Do you have any shorts your children don’t fit any longer? The school always gratefully accepts donations of old uniforms.
GCSS Expectations for all learners - Weeks 5 & 6
I am a LEARNER - I make my best effort
Absence notes
Schools are required to follow up unexplained absences, so a big thank you goes out to everyone who notifies the school when your child is absent. The school has recently sent home notes with children who have unexplained absences. If your child has brought this home, please add an absence reason and return the note. If you receive the absence text (sent when the school does not have a reason for that day’s absence), a short explanation reply will be appreciated.
Year 7 enrolments - Well done Yr 6 parents
Gympie Central has almost all it’s Year 6 students enrolled in high school. The high schools have passed on their gratitude to our families!
Let’s communicate
At Gympie Central we value a safe and respectful school community. Being informed about what’s going on is really valuable. Families can do this by:
- Talking with your child about what’s happening at school
- Talk to school staff
If you need clarification of a question:
- Call the school to organise a time in advance. Sometimes we are unavailable on short notice, but we will always work with you to find a suitable time to catch up.
It’s helpful to:
- Keep your contact details up to date
- Check our email communication and Facebook page for updates
- Let the school know when your child is absent
- Keep the school in the loop when there are changes in children’s lives
School Magazine - Off the Slate
Our School Magazine is in production and will be available to order shortly. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
Remember, we are here to help!
I would like to thank families, staff and students for the contributions made every day to make Gympie Central the wonderful community it is! Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky

Great Day Out is coming up - for siblings of special needs children - a great day of fun without responsibility or worry for their siblings.
Activities are still to be finalised, but will include horse riding, archery tag, swimming and disc golf.
Please let me know if you are interested as there are limited numbers. If costs are an issue please contact me and I will work with you to support you and your child. It is a great opportunity to let siblings have fun away from the usual cares at home.
