Term 3 - Week 9
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Gympie Central students can be commended on another excellent term of learning - in and out of the classroom. Highlights from the term include:
- Roadcraft visits for all classes
- A colour run afternoon where fun and laughter were the main ingredients
- A fantastic Year 5 camp to Barambah (Year 6 is next term!)
- A third and second place in the Gympie Maths and English Challenges
- Successful Prep Explore and Play sessions
- Book Week celebrations including visits to the Gympie Library and the fantastic Book Week Parade
- Valuable Hear and Say hearing screenings
- Strong NAPLAN results for our Year 3 and 5 students
- Learnt about Rube Goldberg machines (Google it - a great holiday challenge!)
- Year 1 Fire Education program
- An author visit for our Enrichment Writers’ program
- Surf Life Saving Qld visit for their Beach to Bush surf safety program
NAPLAN
The school has received its preliminary NAPLAN results and after a disrupted 2020, the school has achieved very pleasing results. The school uses its overall results to reflect on and refine how effectively it delivers the Australian Curriculum, but does not use individual students’ results for reporting. Parents of students who completed the assessments will have received their child’s report this week.
R U OK? Day
Today, Thursday 9 September is R U OK? Day. R U OK? is a not for profit organisation founded in 2009 with a vision of a world where we are all connected and are protected from suicide, as well as encouraging and equipping everyone to regularly and meaningfully ask “are you ok?”.
At Gympie Central State School, we continue to focus on promoting and supporting kindness, mental health and wellbeing for everyone in our school community – and beyond – so please take the opportunity to check in with and look after someone. If you have a nagging feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would, trust your instinct and act on it.
Teacher Aides’ Appreciation Week
Last week was Australian Teacher Aide Appreciation Week. It provided us with an opportunity for us to recognise, acknowledge and celebrate the skills and abilities that our Teacher Aides bring to the daily life and operation of our school. Gympie Central State School is very fortunate to have a fantastic group of talented Teacher Aides who work hard to support students in their learning and staff in their teaching – their contribution to our school is a very significant one. On behalf of our school community, thank you to each of our awesome Teacher Aides!
Father’s Day Sale
A huge thank you to our P and C team and volunteers for their efforts in organising and running the Father’s Day sale for our students. It's a great way to show our appreciation to our special dads, uncles and grandfathers and it is a wonderful fundraiser for our school.
GCSS Expectations for all learners - Weeks 9 & 10
I am RESPECTFUL - I offer to help
Next Friday 17 September the students have their Positive Behaviour Reward - it’s a CRAZY SOCK DAY!
This is our last newsletter for the term. I would like to thank families, staff and students for the contributions made every day to make Gympie Central the wonderful community it is! Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky

Hello everyone,
Only one week of school left!!
Lots of beading still happening; hope you get to see some of the bracelets and necklaces the kids have made. They are getting quicker and putting more time into making patterns with the beads. Students are learning crochet at Craft Club and they are doing great with it.
We have a Bacon and Egg Breakfast organised for the last day of this term, which you are welcome to come on in and enjoy brekky with your kids!!
Great Day Out is coming up - for siblings of special needs children - a great day of fun without responsibility or worry for their siblings.
Activities are still to be finalised, but will include horse riding, archery tag, swimming and disc golf.
Please let me know if you are interested as there are limited numbers. If costs are an issue please contact me and I will work with you to support you and your child. It is a great opportunity to let siblings have fun away from the usual cares at home.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of any help to you or your family. Enjoy your weekend!!
