Term 2 - Week 9
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As the term edges closer to its end, I’d like to recognise the excellent cohort of students Gympie Central has walking its halls. The Year 6s and Student Councillors who will lead us into the second half of the year have shown themselves to be excellent leaders with a genuine interest in their learning and in supporting younger peers. They have:
- Worked with their buddies to support their learning in early years classrooms
- Been role models for younger students in the playground by playing in the P-2 playground and modelling appropriate play
- Shown initiative and established playtime clubs
- Been active in the Student Council, generating and implementing ideas for the benefit of their peers
- Thrived in their role as school and sports house captains, letting their actions speak as much as their words.
Our students show care for others and while there are times when some students need support and reminding to consider their choices, overall the students from Prep to Year 6 are students are excellent ambassadors for themselves and Gympie Central.
Awesome Sports Day - Go Fisher house!!
Congratulations to Fisher Sports House who took out the overall trophy at yesterday’s sports day. The students were great competitors and one of the many highlights were the relays. This was where the students really shone because even though it was the end of the day, every runner gave every relay race 100% in an effort to help their team win.
Congratulations to Nash who took out the junior sports house trophy and Fisher who were the overall winners on the day. Our age champions for each age group were:
10yrs - Archer and Paige
11yrs - Harrison, Peyton and Kayden-Ella (tied for age champion)
12yrs - Jackson and Phoebe
A huge thanks goes to Mr Boyd for putting together a fantastic sports day, to Ms Child who prepared the oval in the week before the event and to all the staff and families who made the day a great event.
Positive Behaviour for Learning - Crazy Hair whole school reward Thursday next week
Each week on parade we have our lucky draw for students who have received ‘Gotcha’ awards. Next Thursday 24 June the whole school has earned a CRAZY HAIR DAY. Let’s see what they’ve got!! I’m sure there are some staff who will also step up to the challenge!
Next Wednesday, at second break, Mr Cafferky will be hosting an afternoon tea for the students who have received 100 Gotchas for the year. Twelve students have achieved this goal so far and there are bound to be some more by next week.
Disco tonight!
Remember our school disco tonight! It’s a 5:30 pm start and finish at 7pm.
Report Cards will be emailed Thursday 24 June
This year there are no printed copies of report cards. Reports will be emailed on Thursday 24 June.
Term 3 Curriculum Planning
Mrs Vacher, Head of Department- Curriculum, is meeting with all teachers over this fortnight (1 day for each teacher) to prepare the curriculum for next term. During these pre-moderation meetings, teachers and support teachers work for a day with Mrs Vacher to deepen their understanding on the English and Maths unit expectations, then plan for the best way to support students to demonstrate their knowledge in the Term 3 assessment tasks.
NAIDOC
Being held from 4 to 11 July, NAIDOC Week gives all Australians the chance to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet.
We support our students’ understanding of this year’s theme Heal Country! in everyday learning through the Australian Curriculum’s Cross Curriculum Priorities for Sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures.
Students have been working with Russell Bennet over the past month and will also partcipate in activities to recognise NAIDOC Week when we return for Term 3.
Prep 2022 enrolments are open
Enrolments for prep 2022 are open. If you have or know of a child born between 1 July 2016 – 30 June 2017, he or she is eligible for prep next year. If you have an eligible prep child, please contact the school to add your child’s name to the prep class for next year.
The school is also advertising individual tours of the school. Families can contact the office on 5480 2111 to make a time to walk through the school with Mr Cafferky or Mrs Vacher.
Colour Run - Term 3, Friday 23 July
Students have brought home details for the Term 3 colour run on Friday of Week 2. The money raised from this event will be shared by our school chaplain, Chappy Leanne, to support our chaplaincy program and by the Student Council.
Consent will be required to participate and on the day of the event students are required to:
- Bring old clothes to wear in the run (lighter colours will show the colour better, but are not essential)
- Bring a change of clothes to wear home (not recommended to change back into uniform)
- Bring a towel to use to cover the seat in the car or the bus
Consent will come home next term.
75 Gotcha Awards
A massive congratulations to our next Gotcha Award Winners, Noah, Kayden-Ella and Kaneesha.

Remember, we are here to help!
This is the last newsletter for the term. Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Have a great month and we’ll see you next term!
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
