Term 2 - Week 5
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
P&C News
Next Friday, 28 May, the P&C will hold a sale of 2nd hand uniforms and navy blue jumpers. As the temperature get cooler in the mornings, it’s important that students arrive to school wearing uniform jumpers. Students look great and show respect for the school when they wear the navy blue. They feel part of the Gympie Central team when they’re in uniform. Jumpers can be:
- Navy with the school logo
- Navy without the school logo
- Navy with a zip
- Navy without a zip
Your support in having your child/children wear the agreed uniform will be appreciated.
A big shout out to all the volunteers who supported the P&C sausage sizzle at Bunnings. The P&C was able to raise almost $1000 for just that day. The P&C has set a goal to raise funds to repaint a number of the murals on the paths around the junior school.
High School Enrolments
Both of the Gympie state high schools are requiring families to submit Year 7 enrolments by the end of Term 2 in order to prepare timetables for 2022.
James Nash SHS and Gympie SHS will be hosting parent information sessions in the coming weeks at each of the larger primary schools; West, South, Jones Hill and One Mile. These are combined sessions for both high schools and they will present together at each session. Parents will hear from both schools about their shared expectations along with relevant points of difference. Families with children in Year 6 are encouraged to attend to get a clear understanding of the enrolment process.
James Nash Instrumental group visit and Kia Toa performance - Wednesday 26 May
The instrumental students from JNSHS are visiting next Wednesday to showcase their skills. All classes have the chance to see the various groups perform.
Later that day in the afternoon, Bernard Mangakahia will perform his show, Kia Toa. Permission forms and payments are due next Monday 24 May.
Pyjama Day - Friday 28 May
The Student Council is holding a pyjama day fundraiser next Friday 28 May. Students are able to wear their favourite PJs and the Student Council is asking for a gold coin donation. Families can also make their donation using the Qkr! app.
Explore Prep and Play morning - Thursday 10 June 9-10am
The school will be holding its second Explore Prep and Play morning in the coming month. This is a great way for children to get a taste of school. Last time the visiting kindy age kids didn’t want to leave! If you know of any young children that are school age in 2022, invite them to join us on the morning.
Athletics Day - Wednesday 16 June
School Disco - Thursday 17 June
The Gympie Central SS disco is BACK!! It will happen from 5:30pm to 7:00pm on Thursday 17 June.
Natives R Us Nursery - donation to the school
The Natives R Us nursery at Traveston has kindly donated over 60 native seedlings to Gympie Central. The wholesale nursey is also open to the public and has given the school a wide range of plants including Grevilleas, Callistemons, Leptospermums, Melaleucas and Lilly Pillies. Keep an eye out and you’ll see some of these starting to appear around our school grounds. A big thank you goes out to Jacinta at Natives R Us for her generous gift to the school!
Creative Generation - Fundraiser for Gympie students
State School students, including kids from Gympie Central and other schools across the Gympie region, will be travelling to Brisbane to take part in the Creative Generation (CGEN). CGEN brings together talented performing artists from across the state. The committee is holding a fundraiser in conjunction with Tracey Devereaux Photography. See the attached flyer for details of the family photo opportunity.
National Reconciliation Week - 27 May to 3 June
National Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June and this year’s theme More than a word. Reconciliation takes action is a statement that shows Australia is moving toward the next steps in creating a reconciled nation. This is a complex journey and while there is increasing awareness and knowledge in the community, people are now being encouraged to speak up and take brave action in the journey to reconciliation.
75 Gotcha Awards
A massive congratulations to our next Gotcha Award Winners, Seth, Flynn, Amity, Zac, Oliver A, Hunter, Oliver B and Eva.

Remember, we are here to help!
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Have a great fortnight!
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky

Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.

Hello,
Hope you have enjoyed your long weekends recently! We are nearly halfway into Term 2 already!
I will be running beading club through Chappy week, so anyone interested in making some bead bracelets, come and join me second break – Tuesday, Thursday & Friday (PJ’s Day)!!
Garden club is still going, we had two donations from the congregation of the Gympie Anglican church which were very much appreciated and filled up two of the schools gardens at the front area of the school (bus zone), students are doing a great job. We welcome any hardy plants you would like to donate, they love planting more than weeding for some strange reason!
Colour Explosion coming up early Term 3 July 23 – fundraising info will come home in June, to give students plenty of time to fundraise and earn some awesome prizes.
Warm regards,
Chappy Leanne
Brekky Club

Qkr is a mobile phone app designed for Australian schools. It can be used to purchase school uniforms, pay for upcoming excursions and events as well as Tuckshop.
Instructions on how to download the app are shown in the link below.
To avoid paying for something twice, please open your Qkr app to review payments already made. Thank you.
