Term 2 - Week 1
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 2 and welcome to our new families. The students have settled in and classes have been learning about their units of work for the term. Attached to this newsletter are the Term 2 overviews for each class. These give a brief description of the focus for each subject area.
Parents and families are invited to join our students this Friday 23rd April when Gympie Central will commemorate ANZAC Day with a special 30 minute service at 9am in the school parade area. This service will be led by the school captains and will be attended by special guests from the Gympie RSL, the Gympie Regional Council and Department of Education.
Gympie ANZAC March - Sunday 25th April
For students able to join us on ANZAC Day- 25th April, Gympie Central will join local schools and organisations to march in the Gympie ANZAC March along Mary St to Memorial Park. Details are:
Event: Gympie ANZAC Day March. Students will march with staff.
Date: Sunday 25th April
Time: Gather at 9am for a 9:30am march. Students not required to stay for the service following the march.
Meeting place: NAB in Mary St
Uniform: Full school uniform including school or navy blue hat. A small supply of spare school hats will be available.
It would be great to see as many students as possible join their peers on this day. For any students who have family medals to wear, these can be worn on the right side.
Additional ANZAC services information is in the attached flyer and remember, Monday is a public holiday.
Every Day Counts
Each and every day there is new learning happening at school. It’s important that children attend school every day to give themselves the best opportunities for learning.
P&C News
Tuckshop this term - it's every Friday!

Thanks to our P&C, tuckshop is available each Friday this term. Ordering is via the Qkr! app and the term menu is attached. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers who come in each week to provide this option for our families.
Mother’s Day
The P&C is requesting donations for the Mother’s Day stall and any donations can be dropped to the tuckshop tomorrow morning. All orders are through the Qkr app and they will be ready to be collected on 7 May. See the attached flyers for further information.
Carpark Safety
Families are reminded that our carparks are for staff use and dropping children off in the carparks puts them in danger. The carparks are particularly busy before and immediately after school. Please avoid dropping off and picking up in these spaces.
NAPLAN Online – 11-20 May
Year 3 and Year 5 students will be completing the NAPLAN assessments between 11 and 20 May. While teachers have been familiarising students with the online format, the teaching and learning taking place in classrooms is just as it would be during any other term at Central.
Explore Prep and Play morning - Thursday 6 May 9-10am
Gympie Central is offering families the opportunity to bring their pre-preppies to spend a morning at Central. This is for parents and children to explore and play in the school environment, play in the classroom, meet key staff and the current preps. Parents will stay with their child for the hour-long session and leadership staff will be available to answer questions. All pre-preps are welcome.
KindyLinQ @ Monkland
Engaging with quality early years education gives kids a great start in life. Monkland SS is hosting KindyLinQ each Tuesday and Wednesday from 9-12. This fantastic program is free and offered to children 3 years old. Parent attend with their children and it is open to all families in the local area - not just Monkland families.
Do you know a group that could use our surplus playground tables?
The school has three wooden playground tables (new tables have been installed in the senior playground). Do you know a group who could use them? The P&C will gratefully receive a donation for these. They’re old, but they’re solid. See the pics. Contact the school if interested.
Remember, we are here to help!
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Have a great fortnight!
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
