Term 1 - Week 9
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Term 1 has flown by and holidays will be here in the blink of an eye. The students can be commended on a fantastic first term. They are in the final stages of completing assessment and can be celebrated for achieving two whole school rewards for their great behaviour across the playground and the classrooms. Well done kids!
At Gympie Central we use the Zones of Regulation to help children understand their state of mind and readiness for learning. Click on the link below for more information.
Families are welcome back at parades
Each Friday the school holds its parade at 9am in the covered area. It’s been great to see families return to parade! Come along if you have time - just remember adults from separate households are still asked to keep 1.5m apart.
Tomorrow, two of our instrumental kids will be performing on parade. Dylan and Jackson will be showcasing their talents!
Cross Country - Monday 29 March - Wear your team colours!
Remember to wear red, yellow or green for Monday’s cross country. Cross country starts at 9:00am and finishes around 10:30am. Families are welcome to come and cheer on the runners.
James Nash SHS Concert Band Visit - Wednesday 31 March
Next Wednesday 31 March, the James Nash State High School instrumental students will visit Central to perform for our classes. It’ll be a great chance to see the rewards of hard work and practice as well as the opportunities offered by being part of the instrumental program in primary school.
Easter Bonnet Parade - Thursday 1 April
The last parade of term will be held on Thursday 1 April. Students in Prep to Year 2 are looking forward to showing off their Easter bonnets and all parents are invited to come watch the Easter bonnet parade at 9.00am. Students will be making their Easter bonnets in class, but if parents wish to get involved and make one at home for their child to bring in, this will be great too. Hope to see you there.
The last day of term will also have a special tuckshop menu of hot cross buns and flavoured milk as well as being a gold coin donation free dress day for our students.
Year 6 High School Intentions - What is your catchment high school?
Parents and carers of children in Year 6 are encouraged to start thinking about where your child will attend high school next year. Both high schools are requesting 2022 enrolments be submitted by the end of Term 2 2021. This enables them to accurately plan the 2022 timetable as they move into the second semester of 2021.
Staff Changes - Farewell Mrs Walker and Mrs Googe
After many years serving the Gympie Central State School community, Mrs Walker and Mrs Googe will bid farewell to Central at the end of this term. Both of these ladies have had longstanding and deep connections to this wonderful school, but with lower enrolments, the school has had a reduction in administration hours. Mrs Walker will take on a similar role at Chatsworth State School and Mrs Googe will step across to James Nash SHS, no doubt catching up with many of our past students. Next term we will welcome Mrs Courtney Cross back to Central. Mrs Cross started her work with the Department of Education here at Central over ten years ago, with her most recent position being at James Nash SHS. She is excited about the new opportunity here at Gympie Central and has already spent a day here getting ready to take on the Small Schools Business Manager role.
The staff, students and families will dearly miss Mrs Googe and Mrs Walker. We wish them well and hope to see them on our travels around Gympie.
ANZAC Service - Friday 23 April / Sunday 25 April
The school will host its ANZAC service at school on Friday 23 April (the first Friday in Term 2). Families are invited to join the school and special guests as the school captains lead this commemorative service. On Sunday 25 April, Gympie Central staff and students will march with the Gympie schools in the town’s ANZAC march. Students are asked to gather in full school uniform at 9:00am outside the National Australia Bank in Mary St, before marching at 9:30am to Memorial Park. Following the march, children may leave with their family.
Senior Shirts
Our Year 6 Senior Shirts should be arriving early in term 2. They will be distributed to students as soon as they arrive.
NAPLAN – 10-21 May
School students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across Australia will be completing NAPLAN assessments in mid-May. Gympie Central students will be completing these online (except the Year 3 writing task) and have started familiarising themselves with the online platform. Parents of Year 3 and Year 5 students have had information sent home recently. If families have any questions about NAPLAN, please contact your child’s teacher or the office.
Book Fair
An enormous thank you is extended to all the families who recently supported our first Book Fair for 2021. We sold $1376.80 which is absolutely fantastic. Due to your support, the Library has received many free books which means more books for your children to borrow - encouraging a love of reading.
