Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to this year’s final Thursday’s Tidings. What a year it has been!
Today we celebrated with the End of Year Concert held at school for the first time in a very, very long time. The kids have been so excited to showcase their performances and to see it all come together was satisfying for everyone.
Thank you to our families who came along to support the students and we hope you enjoyed the show.
Report Cards
Report Cards will be distributed next Tuesday when they are sent home with the students at 3pm. No reports will be handed out early. However, if your child is not at school this day, the reports will still be emailed that afternoon.
Class Groupings - notifications home Tuesday 8 Dec
Each year the school has to prepare classes for the following year. Projections for next year indicate that the school will have most classes being composite classes. This is a result of varying numbers of enrolments in each year level. Composite classes are found in most schools and children in a composite class still work on the same curriculum as any other student in their year level. Composite classes:
- Are a result of enrolment numbers that vary between year levels
- Develop children’s independent work habits, leadership skills and social interactions
- Develop children as role models and enable younger children to have role models
- Enable the formation of new friendships
- Include a wide range of abilities (just like any classroom)
- Require teachers to be very organised
Composite classes are not:
- Grouped according to ability
- One year level waiting for the other year level to finish (see the final point in the list above)
Next Tuesday afternoon the school will host a transition afternoon where children will get to meet their teacher for 2021. That same afternoon, students will bring home their report card, their note introducing their 2021 teacher and their booklist.
Year 6 Graduation - Tuesday 8 December
Next Tuesday night the Year 6s will celebrate their graduation here at school. Each student can have up to 2 family members attend and the event runs from 5:40pm-7:00pm. Attendees are required to purchase tickets using Qkr or in person at the office by tomorrow. The cost is $5 per person. There is no cost for the graduating student. These funds will be used by the P&C to cover the cost of catering for the event. Thank you to all our families who have already booked their tickets.
This past week the Year 6s have enjoyed the opportunity to attend their prospective high schools for next year. We wish them all the best for the next stage of their education journey.
Last Day - Wednesday 9 December
Remember, school finishes next Wednesday 9th December. Thank you to all our families after what has been a challenging year. On behalf of the staff of Gympie Central, thank you for your support.
