Term 4 - Week 3
Dear Parents and Carers,
Firstly, on behalf of the school and P&C, thank you to our families who generously supported the tuckshop free dress fundraiser last Friday. The combination of non-perishables, money donations via the Qkr app and a gift card were gratefully received and mean that the P&C can purchase a new frypan and BBQ. These valuable donations mean that the tuckshop can minimise costs and maximise funds raised for the P&C.
Qkr app - Have you started using the app?
Gympie Central now uses the Qkr app. Qkr is a Commonwealth Bank app that enables direct payment to the school without the need for cash or coming into the school. It is secure and can be linked to any bank account. It is used for tuckshop, uniform shop, excursions, camps, donations and fundraisers.
Download the app, find Gympie Central State School, link to your child and you’re ready to go. Click the link below for more information on how to download the app.
Book Week Events - Curious Creatures, Wild Minds
Yesterday Curtis Dray from the Gympie Regional Library visited the school and worked with all classes (except 4O who were on their excursion). Curtis shared this year’s books that have been nominated for Children’s Book Council awards. Tomorrow, Friday 23 October, the school will hold its book week parade at 9am. After a great parade last year, the staff are looking forward to seeing the kids get into the spirit this year. Not sure if Captain Underpants is returning in 2020, but something is planned.
Parents and caregivers are welcome to come and watch the Book Week parade. We ask that visitors:
- Maintain social distancing of 1.5m (members of the same household can be in groups)
- Sign the attendance register in the parade area
- Do not attend if feeling unwell
It is expected the parade will finish by 9:30am.
Prep Enrolments
Gympie Central is open for Prep enrolments for next year. This year’s Prep class have had an amazing year and are ready to be the leaders for next year’s students. Children born between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016 are prep eligible in 2021. If you have a child or know of friends or family with a preppie for 2021, please contact the school to see how we can best meet this child’s needs. Our Prep Orientation Sessions will be held on Wednesday 11 November and Tuesday 17 November.
Student Leadership 2020
All Year 5 students will be provided with an application for 2020 School Captain positions. The timeline is as follows:
- Friday 23 October - Application paperwork distributed
- Friday 6 November - Written applications due
- Monday 16 & Tuesday 17 November - High Ropes leadership days at Gympie East SS (Forms and payment due to the office by 28 October)
- Wednesday 18 November - Speeches and voting
- Thursday 3 December - Leaders announced at school concert (in-school event)
- House Captains and Student Council elections will be conducted in early 2021
End of Year School Concert - Thursday 3 December
Due to the current operating guidelines, this year’s End of Year Concert will be taking place during school time on Thursday 3 December (from approximately 12 midday onwards). The school will need to follow the same guidelines as for the Book Week parade. However, it is anticipated a larger number of guests will attend the End of Year Concert so the school will time the event so that parents of Prep- Yr 3 students attend the first part of the concert, then Yr 4-6 parents can attend the second part of the concert.
Year 6 Graduation - Tuesday 8 December
Our Year 6 Graduation is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday 8 December (2nd last day of school) here on the school grounds. As this is an outside hours school event, there will be stricter conditions and the number of attendees will need to be limited. In order to meet guidelines, each student will only be able to have up to 2 family members and they will need to purchase tickets to the event (estimated cost will be between $5-$10).
A note with more detail will be distributed to the Year 6 classes in the coming weeks.
Term 4 Tuckshop
Our P&C is always seeking volunteers for Friday mornings. If you are able to assist with the tuckshop, please contact the school and your details will be forwarded on. The menu for all of Term 4 dates was emailed to families yesterday.
Early finish to the school year...
A reminder that all State Schools finish on Wednesday 9 December. Reports will be distributed on Tuesday 8 December.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
As we wind up the year, tensions build and we all grow weary and tired, children included! I just want to encourage you and remind you – you are doing a great job!
I firmly believe if we support our children and help them develop the skills to deal with what seems like little issues, they grow up with resilience and the ability to deal with the bigger issues that come along as we become adults. Your children appreciate your time and your love. The most remembered holidays and memories are the ones that make them feel you are connected and enjoying their company.
Reminder: Brekky Club is available every Tuesday & Thursday morning as well as every 2nd Friday morning (even weeks - non-newsletter week).
