Term 4 - Week 1
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to what will be an exciting last term for Gympie Central. There is a great deal happening this term including Book Week, visiting performance, 2021 student leadership elections, 2021 prep orientation, Roadcraft for senior classes, Year 4 excursion, report cards and the installation of the new senior playground.
Book Week Parade
Each year across Australia, the Children’s Book Council of Australia brings children and books together to celebrate CBCA Book Week. During this time schools, libraries, booksellers, authors, illustrators and children celebrate Australian children’s literature and you will often see children’s book character parades and talented librarians creating amazing displays. This year the theme for Book Week is Curious Creatures, Wild Minds. Gympie Central will celebrate Book Week with a special dress up parade at 9am on Friday 23 October. The parade will be an opportunity for children (and staff) to dress up in the theme. It’s time to get creative! Mrs Condon will coordinate a display for the library as well as the prizes for the best-dressed students.
Roadcraft Excursion for Years 4, 5 & 6
Gympie is fortunate to have the Roadcraft Driver Education Centre located here in our community and with the help of Queensland Government road safety funding and the Kin Kin Masonic Lodge, they have offered free Bicycle and Road Safety Education courses to primary school students this year. Our Prep to Year 3 students attended earlier this term.
Our Year 4, 5 & 6 students will be visiting the Roadcraft Centre on either Thursday 15th or Friday 16th October. They will participate in practical learning via their designated bicycle road circuit where they will learn about road safety in a practical and safe environment. Letters, Activity Consent and the Roadcraft Questionnaire Declaration forms were sent home on Tuesday. Please return all forms by Tuesday 13 October.
Year 4O Science Excursion
As part of thier Science unit this term, the Year 4O class will be participating in a rainforest walk at Cedar Grove, Amamoor and then a river walk along the Mary River in Gympie on Wednesday 21 October. The aim of the excursion is to investigate different environments in our local area. Letters were forwarded home today. The Activity Consent form and payment is due by Monday 19 October. Please note the preferred payment methods are BPOINT or Qkr.
School Photos
School photos took place on 11 August. Photos were forwarded home today to those families who placed an order with Silver Rose.
Prep Enrolments
Gympie Central is open for Prep enrolments for next year. This year’s Prep class have had an amazing year and are ready to be the leaders for next year’s students. Children born between 1 July 2015 and 30 June 2016 are prep eligible in 2021. If you have a child or know of friends or family with a preppie for 2021, please contact the school to see how we can best meet this child’s needs. Our Prep Orientation Sessions will be held on Wednesday 11 November and Tuesday 17 November.
P&C News – Tuckshop / Free Dress / Family Photo Fundraiser
Tuckshop
The P&C volunteers will coordinate tuckshop each Friday through Term 4. Menu reminders will be emailed each week and ordering will be available using the Qkr mobile app (as well as cash orders). Tomorrow’s option is Mac and Cheese for $4 and/or a garlic bread for $1.
P&C Pantry Filler Free Dress Day - Friday 16 October
Instead of a gold coin donation, the P&C is requesting pantry items to support the tuckshop. Donations can be left at the tuckshop next Friday morning and requests include non-perishable items. See more details in the P&C & Tuckshop News section below.
Family Photo Fundraiser – Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 October
The P&C is currently taking bookings for a 15 minute family photo shoot with well-known local photographer, Tracey Devereaux, here in the school grounds on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October. Bookings cost $20 and includes a 6x8 photo of your family. Further photos can then be ordered directly through Tracey. Bookings should be made using the school’s Qkr app under the P&C Events tab. See more details in the P&C & Tuckshop News section below.
P&C Meeting
The next P&C meeting is scheduled for 3:30pm on Monday 19 October. All are welcome :)
Covid Management Continuation
The school continues to work in accordance with Queensland’s Roadmap to easing restrictions. Staff and students continue to maintain appropriate health and hygiene measures:
- Regular handwashing and hand sanitising, particularly before and after eating, and after going to the toilet
- Increased cleaning of school classrooms, particularly high frequency touch points including water fountains or bubblers
- Regular cleaning of playground equipment and play materials
- Physical distancing of adults.
Physical distancing within schools
The school will encourage staff, parents and other adult visitors to observe physical distancing measures by not congregating in areas inside or around the school. While parents may enter the Gympie Central school grounds, it is important that parents:
- do not congregate in groups before or after school outside classrooms.
- do not enter classrooms and maintain appropriate social distancing when inside the grounds.
- minimise adult entries to office environments and the school recommends contact be made to the school via electronic means.
Management of Young Children Program (MYCP)
Families in Gympie have access to the MYCP. This is a program designed to support parents who are finding their young child’s behaviour challenging. Department of Education staff facilitate the program, it takes place at Monkland SS and it is free to our local families. Click on the attached link below for more information.
Warm regards,

The $20 booking fee goes directly to the school P&C.
Every available time slot is listed and has a quantity of 1 available. When placing your order, if you see a message saying unavailable or zero quantity available, it means that particular timeslot has been taken and you will need to select a different time.
You will also need to provide a short note about your family for the photographer's information as indicated below the timeslot area eg mum, dad and 3 children or 2 grandparents and 1 child, etc.
We also continue to donate hamper items to families in need. If you clean out your pantry and find any unwanted items you are welcome to send them into the office for donating. Thanks so much for your support for the school students and their families.
