Dear families,
Concert tonight!
Everyone is looking forward to seeing our amazing Central families at this evening’s End of Year Concert. The P&C sausage sizzle starts at 5pm and we kick off at 5:30pm sharp. The whole show will be done before 7pm! Remember it’s full school uniform for students and after our rehearsal yesterday, we all know families are going to really enjoy the evening.
A reminder that the P&C raffles will be drawn tonight. Get you tickets before the show!
Year 6 Graduation - Wednesday 4 December
Year 6 Graduation will take place on Wednesday 4th December starting at 5:30pm and finishing by 7pm. Year 6 parents, have you sent in the items Mr Barnes has requested? Remember to purchase your tickets on Qkr!- graduating students are free and tickets are $10 for other attendees.
Rewards Day - Tuesday 10 December
Our students who have exemplified Safe, Respectful Learners this year will be heading off to their rewards day on Tuesday 10th December. All students who’ve earned 225 Gotchas are heading to Gympie Ten Pin Bowling to show their bowling talent! Our students who didn’t get to the 225 Gotchas still have a great day planned for them here at school. They’ll still celebrate, they’ll just do it at school.
The final tally will be counted next Thursday 5th December and permission notes for the bowling trip will come out Friday 6th December.
Help Central grow a class! Do you know any new families?
Do you know a family new to town? If so, invite them to come and tour the school. What student doesn’t want more kids to play with!
Families do not need to be in our catchment area.
People think we are a large school but we have the advantage of being a small school with large classrooms and play areas.
We only need a few more students to get an extra teacher next year which will reduce the class sizes and benefit all our students.
Tell them to come and have a no-obligation look round to view the facilities and meet the Principal and Teachers.
Class Transition Afternoon - Wednesday 4 December
Classes (with booklists) for 2024 will be released on the Wednesday 4th December. Students will spend the last session that day with their new teacher. Reports will be emailed the following afternoon on Thursday 5th December.
Open classrooms and book drop - Friday 24 January 1-3pm
Our teachers will be in their rooms to welcome parents and students who wish to drop off their books on Friday 24th January from 1-3pm (this is during the Student Free Days). The book drop off is not compulsory, but is a nice way to meet the teacher and helps make the first day, Tuesday 28th January, start just like any other school day.
Week 11 (9-13 December)
School remains open for the week of 9th-13th December. Parents should be aware that there will be no formal lessons during this week and that classes will be combined to enable teachers to be released to complete curriculum planning for 2025.
Happy Holidays!
This is the final newsletter for 2024. On behalf of all the staff here at Central, thank you for another great year. Have a merry Christmas and a safe holiday period. Farewell to our year 6s and departing families - you will be missed and you are always welcome at Central.
Kind regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Student Medication
Student medication is not able to be stored at school over the Christmas break. Parents are asked to come and collect their student's medication from the office on or before Friday 13th December.
New medication will need to be brought back in to the office on Tuesday 28th January 2025, in it's original packaging. When this medication is brought into the office, new paperwork will also need to be completed. Please ensure that you check the expiry dates on your medication before bringing them into school.
Unexplained Absence Letters
Unfortunately, we still have a large amount of students with unexplained absences from throughout this year. Unexplained absence letters will be sent home with students tomorrow. Please provide reasons for any absences and return the letters to the office as soon as possible.
QParents
QParents has launched at Gympie Central SS! Register online now at https://qparents.qld.edu.au using the unique invitation code email sent out from us. Letters containing your student's EQ ID have gone home with students today. You will need this letter to complete the registration process.
If you need assistance with the registration process, please contact the office on 5480 2111 for support.
Payment Options
We have a variety of payment options available here at Gympie Central. Our most preferred method of payment is the Qkr! app. Qkr! is a cashless payment app, which means you can make payments on your mobile phone, rather coming into the school. The Gympie Central P&C also use this app, so not only can you pay for camps and excursions, but you can also order school uniforms and tuckshop with the app.
Instructions on how to download and use the app are shown in the link below.
Other payment options that we provide are:
1. BPOINT - (for invoiced activities) Pay online or by phone using credit/debit card: https://www.bpoint.com.au/payments/dete or phone 1300 631 073
2. CENTREPAY - (for invoiced activities) We now offer Centrepay as a payment method for instrumental music and school camps. Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment. You can start, change or stop using Centrepay whenever you like. If you would like to set up a Centrepay payment, or know more information about this payment method, please contact the school office.
3. EFTPOS - We accept Mastercard, Visa and all Australian bank, building society and credit union cards.
4. CASH - Cash payments are still accepted. However, the school no longer has the ability to give out change, so only cash payments of the correct denomination will be accepted.
Student Absence Notification System
If your child is absent from school without explanation you will receive a SMS text message that morning to your mobile phone asking to explain their absence. Please reply (on the same day) with a simple SMS answer eg sick; specialist appointment. Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE - Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
