Term 3 - Week 9
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to Term Three’s final newsletter. While we are heading toward the end of the term, the days are just as busy. Teachers have been preparing for next term by spending a day working with Ms Vacher. During this day, teachers work with Ms Vacher to unpack the expectations of next term’s units of study;
- What are the key concepts of the Australian Curriculum for Term 4?
- What are students expected to know by the end of the term?
- What are students expected to do to complete the assessment tasks?
This process is known as pre-moderation and is an important part of the planning process to ensure all students have the opportunity to access the curriculum at their level.
Maths Challenge
Congratulations to our team of senior students who competed at the Gympie Maths Challenge earlier this week. Out of 15 teams, our team came a commendable 4th - just missing out on a podium finish!
Year 5 Camp
A group of tired, but elated Year 5s returned to school last Thursday after 3 amazing days out at Barambah Environmental Education Centre. Thank you to Mr Barnes, Mrs Groves, Mrs Wilcox, Chappy Leanne and the Barambah staff who ensured the camp was such a success for next year’s leaders.
PBL News - The Hub at Gympie Central
Gympie Central’s Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) committee is establishing an indoor play space called The Hub. This room will be in the library and is available to students who prefer an indoor play area as an alternative to the outdoor playgrounds. The school is seeking donations of items to include in The Hub. These might include Lego, board games that are quick to play, dress ups, table soccer or similar items. If any families have items that could be utilised in this indoor space, please contact the school and if we can utilise the items, they will be gratefully received.
Emergency Drill
Gympie Central will hold a practice Emergency Evacuation in the next week. Parents and families might wish to speak about this with their children to help get them prepared so the drill less surprises children.
Roadcraft Excursion for Years 4-6
Gympie is fortunate to have the Roadcraft Driver Education Centre located here in our community and with the help of Queensland Government road safety funding and the Kin Kin Masonic Lodge, they have offered free Bicycle and Road Safety Education courses to primary school students this year. Our Prep to Year 3 students attended earlier this term.
Our Year 4 to 6 students will be visiting the Roadcraft Centre on either Thursday 15th or Friday 16th October. They will participate in practical learning via their designated bicycle road circuit where they will learn about road safety in a practical and safe environment. Letters and Activity Consent forms will be forwarded home at the beginning of Term 4.
Happy Holidays
School holidays start next Saturday 19 September. Remember that the first Monday of Term 4 is a public holiday and all students return to school on Tuesday 6 October.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
