Enrichment Writing

Our enrichment writing students have been very busy focussing on the skill of ‘show, don’t tell’ with their writing.  For example instead of saying ‘He was sad.’, they could show what sad might look like. ‘He was crouched over with tears falling down his cheeks.’ or ‘He peered through swollen eyes.’

They have really engaged well with these sessions and I have chosen a couple of samples to share with you.  Their task was to look at a photo and show, with their writing what they see.  I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I did.

Zebra

Zebra.PNG

Bearing his dirty, rotten teeth, the Zebra shook his mane and pawed at the ground, dust billowing up around him. - Rose

The Zebra laughed with his eyes at the goat’s antics.  The goat was standing on its strong hind legs, its face revealing nothing; but what its face didn’t reveal its tail did.  With its quivering tail it grabbed for the snake-like tree, meaning to clamber up and retrieve the rewarding leaves at the top.  Absent minded, the Zebra’s top lip lifted in a fit of laughter. - Kyan

Gorilla

Baby_Gorilla.PNG

The young Gorilla stared despondently into space as his bottom lip stuck out and his shoulders slumped.  Quietly he thought back to a couple of weeks ago when his forest was twice as big and he still had his parents. - Edith

Tall trees whistled and flew past the baby gorilla.  SWING! FLIP! Clutching a handful of leaves, he landed on a nearby branch.  His eyes drooped and he sat in a comfortable position.   MUNCH! CRUNCH! The leaves in his hand vanished into his stomach. – River
