Chappy Chat...
Do you know what a chappy does?
Chappy's contribute to the overall wellbeing strategies and education goals of local schools. We provide students and staff with social, emotional and spiritual support, and provide an additional adult role model in the school environment, and work to enhance engagement with the broader community including parents.
We work with school guidance officers, wellbeing officers, counsellors, teachers, behaviour committees & engagement officers to provide for the needs of each individual child.
What does this look like?
If your child just wants a safe place to hang out they will pop by and say hello, sometimes during playtime a group will hang out, play cards, or board games, colour in, or we might go for a wander down to the playground. Sometimes they will ask if they can come talk to me about something, this can often be a friend issue, a worry or concern about a family member. Sometimes they just want to vent. You as parents might contact me and ask me to talk to them about an issue they are struggling with.
I spend a great deal of time listening, calming, and allowing them to express their feelings without judgement or fear. My aim is to make them feel comfortable and safe, happy to tell me big things and little things. I try and refocus them on positive things, constructive activities that may help them process their feelings and emotions. I hope they walk away feeling heard, less confused and more content & able to focus now they have unloaded what was on their mind.
