Gympie Bypass Community Open Day!
The Department of Transport and Main is excited to confirm the program of entertainment and activities for the Gympie Bypass Community Open Day on Saturday 17 August 2024, between 11am and 4pm, at the Flood Road interchange in East Deep Creek.
Program
The event will include:
· Performances by Gympie Music Muster 2024 talent search finalists
· A broad mix of market-style stalls for attendees to purchase Greek, Brazilian, German, Dutch, Asian and Italian food and beverages. Sweet and savoury food selections will also be available for the kids as well as coffee and tea options
· Road safety and informative displays from emergency services, Gympie Regional Council, local groups and the project team
· Vintage car and motorcycle display from regional clubs
· Roving entertainment
· Free face painting and photo stations
· Promotional activities from local radio station, Zinc 96.1FM.
Visitors will be able stroll, walk, jog or run a 5-kilometre loop on a section of the new highway between the Flood Road interchange and the 250m long, eight-story high Six Mile Creek bridge (this is an informal, untimed ‘choose your own adventure’ type activity).
There is also an opportunity to be part of a historic moment when a drone photographs the crowd spelling out the word ‘GYMPIE’ on the new highway. Details of this activity will be provided on the day.
1. Community members are still more than welcome to attend even if they did not register their interest a couple of weeks ago. The registration process was simply for planning purposes.
How to get there
For the safety of the public, there will be no pedestrian/walking access to the event. Access will be by shuttle buses from two locations near the site (refer to the map below):
· Park 1: 139 Noosa Road, Mothar Mountain.
· Park 2: Flood Road, East Deep Creek. Flood Road will be opened to one-way traffic only with access available at East Deep Creek Road.
Accessibility provisions will be available for people with disabilities, wheelchairs and registered mobility devices at Park 1. Prams will also be catered for on the shuttle buses.
Attendees will experience a short tour of the project while travelling on the shuttle bus from their parking location to the event site (this will take approximately 15 minutes).
Water stations will be available at the event and attendees are encouraged to bring their water bottles, wear comfortable shoes and hats, and apply sunscreen.
This is an alcohol-free event. Drones, push bikes, skateboards, scooters/electronic scooters, roller skates and segways will not be permitted for safety reasons.
