From the Principal...
Term 3 - Week 5
Dear families,
Gympie Central has had an outstanding past fortnight across academic, instrumental and sporting endeavours. Last week our instrumental students competed at the Eisteddfod with both ensembles and duets being awarded first place in their categories. Our 10-12 years students ran, jumped and threw at the Gympie Track & Field trials, and this week our 5/6 competitors took out 1st and 2nd place at the Gympie Primary Maths Challenge and Gympie Primary English Challenge respectively.
Congratulations to all our competitors at these events and a big shout out to the organisers - Shereene Moy for the Track & Field, Lucy and Brett Cantle for the English & Maths competitions, and of course, the Gympie Eisteddfod committee. They are large undertakings and amazing opportunities for our Gympie students.
Prep Transition - Thursday 18th August 9:00am-10:30am
Our next transition morning is this coming Thursday from 9:00am to 10:30am. All new and interested preps are welcome. During this session there will be a parent information session from 9:15 to 10:00 then an informal meet and greet for new families.
Have you added your child to our prep enrolments for 2023? Children born between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2018 are prep age next year. Contact Mrs Cross in the office to secure your child’s 2023 enrolment.
Father’s Day fundraiser
Get in early to plan your Father’s Day gifts! Father's Day orders can be placed on Qkr and will be available from Friday 12th August to Friday 26th August. These orders will then be distributed to students on Thursday 1st September (Friday 2nd September is a Student Free Day).
As always, thank you for your continued support of the P&C!
Uniform orders now only via Qkr
Year 5/6B head off to Noosa North Shore next Wednesday. They’ll have a great time canoeing, paddle boarding, laser tagging, high roping and learning outdoors with their friends!
Arts Performance - Thursday 25 August
Dion Drummond is a performer who will be visiting our school to share his culture and knowledge with the students. Keep an eye out for the note with payment details. There will be no permission note required. Instead, students will attend if they have paid the $6 fee via Qkr. Check out the performance info here

True Relationships - permission due tomorrow
There will be a 30-minute parent information session at 9am on the morning of 17 August, the same morning the 5/6s head to camp.
All classes will be attending sessions delivered by Qld organisation True. True presents programs around relationships and sexual education. There is no cost for the program as the school has funded the program thanks to the Helping Hands Network Foundation grant scheme. However, consent to attend is required. If families prefer to wait for the parent information session to sign consent, this can be accommodated.
Supporting the healthy sexual development of children and young people is a responsibility shared by schools and families. Those people who receive comprehensive, respectful Relationship & Sexuality Education (RSE) from an early age inclusive of sexual abuse prevention, are more likely to:
- Make informed and responsible sexual decisions later in life
- Recognise appropriate and inappropriate behaviour
- Understand and accept changes and individual differences
- Talk about their feelings and experiences.
These sessions are excellent conversation starters for families and the benefit of True presentations is that the students hear factual, accurate information from trained educators. Aside from family, the other sources of this information are usually online and through their peer group. While some such information is accurate, there is the potential for much of what they hear from friends or learn online to be misinformation.

Being On-Time for School
Daily routines for families can help children not only be organised, but also feel safe, calm and develop independence and life skills. They can also buy you more time to spend as a family doing things together rather than rushing about trying to get out the door!
Book Week - 22-26 August (Book Week parade Friday 26 Aug)
Children’s Book Week is just around the corner, running during Week 7, 22nd to the 26th August. It is always a very enjoyable week and we celebrate it with our book Week parade on Friday 26th August. This is a great opportunity for students to literally ‘let their hair down’ and dress up as their favourite book character. The imaginative costumes never fail to impress me and I am looking forward to seeing what this year brings. The costumes are judged and book prizes for the winners are on offer.
If you would like to know more about Children’s Book Week, please have a look at the Children’s Book Council of Australia website - www.cbca.org.au
Remember, we are here to help
Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
