Classroom News - 5/6B

Payten.jpgIn the last few days, we’ve had our Sports Captain and Student Council elections, students participating in their weekly instrumental music lessons, Gympie District Sports Trials and lots of learning in core subject areas.

In English, 5/6B have been hard at work learning the art and craft of narrative writing. We have explored genres, structural features, language features and allowed students to plan and write their own short story, drafting and editing it to make it the best it can be. An extension opportunity for students who have completed the assessment task involves creating some illustrations to go with their story. They will then create a digital story complete with voiceovers to present to class.

In Maths, students have been working on reading and interpreting data, as well as reading and interpreting timetables. Students have also been revisiting place value, multiplication and division.

Our Science topic for this term is about matter, so students have been unpacking the properties of solids, liquids, gases and plasma. We’re conducting an investigation next week which will get us outside!

This term students have loved participating in Japanese, Music and PE with their specialist teachers. Preparations have begun for our Camp to Noosa North Shore in Term 3 - we’re in for an exciting year!
