Prep/1 have had a great start to the school year making new friends and settling into the school routine.

This week, we read the book “I Need a Hug” by Aaron Blabey. We learnt about what authors and illustrators do and did an excellent job of retelling the beginning, middle and end of the story. We found the problem and how it was solved. We painted a picture and wrote about our favourite characters. Tori wrote “My favourite character was the bear because he was fluffy” but Gaara said “My favourite character was the snake because green is my favourite colour”. Piper decided that “My favourite character was the snake because I like snakes and I’ve had one in my house” but Alexis thought that “My favourite character was the bunny because they are soft and they bring you eggs at Easter!”

We also wrote about the part of the story that we enjoyed the most. Hugo wrote “I liked the part when the moose said it’s that prickly thing again” and Letty “liked the part when they hugged because it would have been warm” but Hudson said “the part when they hugged was the best thing he’d ever seen!”

And finally, we thought about who we like to hug and why. Dasharn likes to “hug his sister when they watch a movie together” and Kathleen likes “hugging her sister because she is so cute”. Hunter likes to “hug his Dad because he tickles him” and Janene likes to “hug her Mum because she loves me”.
