From the Principal...

The new school year is a great time to establish good routines in arriving at school on time. Students who arrive late often miss vital information given at the start of the day. They can feel anxious about entering the classroom as they are unsure of the work being done or what they should be doing. Our first bell rings at 8:40am and learning begins at 8:50am. It is important that students arrive prior to this so they are able to greet their classmates and teacher as they line up for class.  

Children do better when they go to school all day, every day. Please notify the school if your child is sick or can’t attend school. Our school attendance target is 92%.  

Every day counts… 

• because children achieve better when they attend school all day, every day;  
• because going to school means getting a better chance at life; 
• because school helps children build social and emotional skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience; 
• because going to school is a legal requirement. 

Uniforms

We are a uniform school and as such students are expected to wear the school uniform every day. The Student Dress Code expects school shirt and navy shorts/skorts/skirt. Black shoes are encouraged and look great with our uniform.  

Our uniform shop has good stock of shirts and hats required to meet our dress code and uniforms can be purchased using the Qkr app. The navy shorts can be sourced from local department stores.  

Wearing the uniform shows pride the school. Our students are our best ambassadors and when they are wearing their uniform it is a great advertisement for our school. The school also has a supply of navy shorts and skorts available for short term use for students.  

Restrictions easing after March 4 

From 6 pm on Friday 4 March, face masks will no longer be required in most settings, including schools and workplaces. 
 
On public transport, and in hospitals, disability care, prisons, aged care, airports and planes, face masks will still need to be worn. 
 
Schools will be allowed to conduct assemblies, excursions and school camps, while restrictions on parents and visitors to schools are also lifting. 

Staff and students are looking forward to the easing of these restriction and while we’ve had fun hosting assemblies using Microsoft Teams (similar to Zoom), we can’t wait to get back to a school with less restrictions.    

Parent Information Evening - postponed

With the current changes to the start of school we will be rescheduling our parent information evening until after the current restrictions ease on the 4th of March. We would still very much like to have them face to face with our parents. We will make a final decision on a date once advice has been finalised.    

The voting process for sports captains has been delayed but will be completed tomorrow. Next week the senior classes will select their student Council representatives. Badges will be presented to the successful candidates on our first parade on Friday 11 March. 

Car park gate project 

Over the coming weeks, Gympie Central will have electric gates installed on the Myall Street and O’Connell Street carparks. The goal is to reduce the amount of foot traffic through the school and increase the safety in our carparks.

Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support.  If it is not a matter for the teacher please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together.  It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
