From the Principal...
Term 4 - Week 1
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back Term 4. I trust that the students had a chance to relax and enjoy themselves for the time off school.
School Photos – Wednesday 13th October
Silver Rose School Photography will be at school next Wednesday morning to take our 2021 school photos. All previous orders will be valid and families can still place orders by going to http://silverrose.com.au/ and entering the code X21GSS for Gympie Central.
Thank you, Gympie Library!
The school students have been able to take advantage of our proximity to the Gympie Library and last term all classes visited the library for Book Week. The 2/3S and 3/4D classes were able to visit again to have an interactive online session with author, Charlotte Barkly. It's fantastic that our students have the chance to access such a great resource so close to school. A big thank you goes out to Curtis and the Gympie Library team!
Relay for Life – Jelly and Ice-cream cup fundraiser
3/4D are raising money for Relay for Life. Each Wednesday for the next 4 weeks, children will be able to purchase a jelly and ice-cream cup for $1.50. These will be available at first break in the parade area. Families can purchase these by using the Qkr app. Thanks for your support.
P&C Meeting – Monday 11 October @ 5pm
Next week's meeting will be held in the library at 5pm. All welcome!!!
World Teachers' Day – Friday 29 October
Each year, in October, we recognise the dedication and efforts of teachers all over the country. This is an early shout out to all the wonderful teachers here at Central. They really are committed to the students and we are lucky to have so much talent in one place. From our classroom teachers, to our specialist teachers, and those who work across multiple schools, thank you for your efforts in shaping and supporting our students to be as successful as they can possibly be.
Year 7 Enrolments for 2022
Gympie SHS and James Nash SHS are requesting that families enrol their Year 6 students as a priority. Both schools are planning their classes and timetables for 2022 and accurate numbers make this process much more efficient.
Gympie Central can arrange for enrolment packs to be sent home. If you require a pack, please contact the office to arrange this. Lastly, thank you to those who have already submitted their paperwork to the high schools.
Student Council project
The Student Council has worked hard to raise funds toward their project to renew the bus seating area. The timber has been ordered and delivered. So, the last step is to install the new seats. The Student Council is excited to see their goal get achieved!
This term the Student Council will start selling 50c icy-cups every Thursday (starting next week 14th October).
Prep Explore and Play Sessions
The school is hosting two more Prep Explore and Play transition mornings this term. The first is Thursday 4th November and the second on Thursday 18th November. Each session will run from 9am to 11am and will give our future preppies a great opportunity to make a successful transition into primary school.
Year 6 Camp
Reminder that Year 6 Camp has been rescheduled! It will now run from Wednesday 24 November to Friday 26 November.
Remember, we are here to help!
I would like to thank families, staff and students for the contributions made every day to make Gympie Central the wonderful community it is! Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
Lost Property
Please ensure that all belongings are clearly labelled so that we can endeavour to return these items to your student/s as quickly as possible.
Student Absence Notification System
Reminder: If your child is absent from school without explanation you will receive a SMS text message that morning to your mobile phone asking to explain their absence. Please reply (on the same day) with a simple SMS answer eg sick; specialist appointment. Alternatively, you can call and leave a message on the Student Absence HOTLINE—Telephone 5480 2166 to report your child’s absence.
Please contact the office by phone if you have any concerns regarding the message you have received.
Voluntary Contribution - $20 per student
Reminder: Each year Gympie Central asks for a voluntary contribution from families. The contribution is used to purchase texts, paper and resources used in classroom learning. This year the payment can be made via the Qkr! app or in person at the office. Your support in paying the voluntary contribution is greatly appreciated.
