From the Principal...
Term 3 - Week 1
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 3 and welcome to our families who have joined us this week. You will find the Gympie Central community very welcoming and the students will make your children feel part of our school from their first day.
NAIDOC Week Parade 9am Friday
NAIDOC week was last week and the school is holding a special NAIDOC parade this Friday morning where our indigenous student leaders will have the opportunity to lead parade and spread the message of Healing Country. Next week staff will be hosting games and activities to celebrate indigenous culture during each lunch break.
Unfortunately, due to current COVID uncertainty, the planned Cooloola NAIDOC Family Fun Day at the Pavilion has been postponed to the end of term.
Thank you P&C!
Gympie Central SS has an active and engaged P&C team, many thanks to all who could attend last week’s working bee. Be sure to check out the work of our dedicated P&C volunteers. The new hopscotch game, the newly painted walls, seat and tables and the replanted garden look amazing. A big thank you to Ken and Vicki who helped over the break getting things ready for the P&C.
Please consider becoming involved with our P&C, they really are a terrific group of parents and work tirelessly to support the best possible experience for every student at Gympie Central SS. The next meeting is at a new time of 5:00pm on Monday 26 July in the library.
Report Cards and Parent Teacher Interviews
Reports Cards were emailed at the end of last term. Please contact the school if you did not receive your child/ren’s reports.
Teachers will be hosting face to face parent teacher interviews in the last week of July and the first fortnight of August. Teachers hold these interviews in their rooms either before or after school. Families will soon receive emails offering bookings at available times. All families are encouraged to make a time to meet and discuss your child’s progress and next steps.
Yr 5 and Yr 6 Camps - 4-6 August
Camps are fast approaching and the due date for the final payments is Tuesday 27 July. Please contact the office if you have any questions around payments.
Colour Explosion Fun Run
The Colour Explosion Fun Run happens next Friday 23 July at 2pm. Permission notes were sent home yesterday and must be returned by next Wednesday 21 July.
School Opinion Survey - Parent Survey
During the holidays, all families received an email with a link to the annual School Opinion Survey. The data from this survey is anonymous and very valuable. It lets the school know its strengths and areas for development. Please take a few minutes to complete this online survey. Staff and Yr 5 and Yr 6 students have an opportunity to submit surveys and when combined, the information is very valuable to school leadership teams and staff. Feedback is a gift!
Prep 2022 enrolments are open

Enrolments for prep 2022 are open. If you have or know of a child born between 1 July 2016 – 30 June 2017, he or she is eligible for prep next year. If you have an eligible prep child, please contact the school to add your child’s name to the prep list for next year.
This term, the school will be offering two more Explore Prep mornings that are combined with parent information sessions (Wednesday 18 August @ 9am and 3:30pm, and Wednesday 8 September @ 9am). The school is also advertising individual tours of the school. Families can contact the office on 5480 2111 to make a time to walk through the school with Mr Cafferky or Mrs Vacher.
Creative Generation (CGEN)
Good luck to our Gympie Central performers who are currently in Brisbane rehearsing and preparing for the CGEN performance tonight. Katie, Kayden-Ella, Charlotte and Phoebe have been there since early Tuesday and will get to showcase their talents along with hundreds of other school age stars at tonight’s performance. Good luck girls!
Winter Trees on Mary
Gympie Central is decorating its tree next Wednesday. If you’re in Mary St from Wednesday, be sure to check out our tree.
School Photos - 12 August
School photos are booked for Thursday 12 August. Book your haircuts!
Remember, we are here to help!
I would like to thank families, staff and students for the contributions made every day to make Gympie Central the wonderful community it is! Like always, if there is something that you want our support with, or if your child is struggling, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher for support. If it is not a matter for the teacher, please call the front office and arrange to meet with a member of the leadership team, so we can work through things together. It takes a village to raise a child, so let’s work together.
Warm regards,
Glenn Cafferky
